Today we’d like to introduce you to Jake Groft.
Hi Jake, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Growing up our household barely had music playing inside. Dad was never a fan of too much noise in the house so the only time we got listen to music was on the Disney channel, the car radio and the choir at church. Ironically I am country artist who didn’t grow up listening to country at all. I started listening to country music when I was 19 a friend introduced me to to Old Dominion and Dan and Shay. After going down the Dan and Shay rabbit hole I found Luke Combs and that’s where it kicked in. Luke released beautiful crazy and I finally found where my voice was in music. If it wasn’t for that song I don’t know if I’d ever have started to perform. I always love singing as a kid but never pushed for it because I felt like it was never in the cards for me. Again, until beautiful crazy. I fell in love with country music that moment, the passion in his lyrics and emotion in the singing drew me in. I found my voice and fell in love with singing. On September 30th 2019 I played my first acoustic gig from 7-11. Yes my first gig was 4 hours, my guitar teacher at the time thought it was good idea. Little did I know it built a strong foundation for me. After that gig I was excited to play more but unfortunately in 2020 with the shut downs it killed my momentum of courage to keep playing. I started pursuing other goals like getting a degree in dietetics but eventually settle on just personal training and nutrition coaching certificate. During that time when I wasn’t pursuing music I lost myself. I took a 3 year hiatus from playing live and didn’t realize how much play it affected my mental health until I stopped. Eventually in late 2022 I met my friends Heads or tails experience and Kenton Sitch. Watching those two perform made me realize how much I missed playing and singing and it’s been pedal to the floor board since. Since then I released my song Lovin’ on Overtime and have been playing acoustic acts every month. Currently working on putting together a band to help back me and my dreams of playing stadium shows.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road. I’m an over thinker and perfectionist and most times they clash. I get caught up in decision fatigue constantly because I want my performances to be the best for my audience. They deserve my best and I’m always working to improve to give everyone a great show to remember
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Currently I specialize in singing and working on my guitar chops to bring more life to my shoes. What I’m most proud of is having a support system who encourages me to chase this dream. My wife has been an inspiration in almost all of my writing and is chasing my dream with me. I think what’s sets me apart from others is I’m not just chasing this dream for myself. I want to be successful with my writing and performing because I want to give my family a life that I didn’t have growing up. I want them to experience a yearly trip to the beach or for my future children to do all the extra curricular they want to do. I want to give my family the best life I possibly can and that’s what drives me.
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
Risk is absolutely essential, progress is never made by staying complacent. My Dad always told never to wait on a ship to come back if you never sent one out. That sticks with me, opportunities will not happen if you don’t put yourself in positions to grow or change. As terrifying as it may be you won’t learn to swim if you’re too afraid to drown.
