Daily Inspiration: Meet Jenna & Zoë

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jenna & Zoë.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
We met at Belmont University in 2014, played our first acoustic worship set together in 2015, and have been writing and singing together ever since. We both led worship in high school – pursuing a career in worship music always felt like our calling. In college, we travelled around the country playing worship nights, leading worship at churches, and leading worship at youth camps. Playing a summer camp for Trinity Church in Connecticut was the first time we had an audience who really connected with our original worship music. We now sing our original songs at our church here in Bellevue called The Hills where we lead every week.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road. Through college and a few years after, we worked at multiple restaurants and nannied for a few families while trying our hardest to pursue a career in music. We definitely felt hidden and unseen as musicians for a while, questioning if this is the path God really had for us. Quarantine gave some people space to create but we personally felt robbed of creativity until we found our church, The Hills. Now we are on staff at church and we lead worship every Sunday. We are working consistently on our own worship music while worshipping weekly at The Hills, and it’s been such a blessing.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
We are a duo called Jenna & Zoë and our strengths are leading worship and writing music for the church. I would say there are two things that we are most proud of. First of all, getting to be part of the worship team at our church, The Hills, is the best thing to ever happen to us. We love our church family and leading worship there more than anything. Second, leading worship for youth camp for Trinity Church is where we found our passion for the youth, and it’s one of our favorite things we do every year. We think what sets us apart is our love for the presence of God. Our music and our worship aims to usher in His presence and create an environment where people feel God moving.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I think what’s so amazing about Nashville is that it is an incredible city full of opportunity, but the saturation is also sometimes what makes it hard. We moved here when we were 18 years old to chase this calling and dream of pursuing Christian music, and Nashville has never disappointed us with the amount of creative people we’ve met and collaborations with peers and mentors we’ve been a part of. But the hard part about Nashville being as amazing as it is that everyone wants to live here! It’s getting hard to find affordable housing and the traffic is worse every year. At times, it can also feel hard to stand out in this industry because there are so many talented people trying to do the same thing as you. However, we really wouldn’t have it any other way. The more people we are surrounded with, the more inspired we are to continue to push ourselves creatively in this industry. We are so glad that Nashville is growing – it really does live up to its hype!
