Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeremiah Stricklin.
Jeremiah, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
We met as college students at the University of Southern Mississippi. We get asked a lot about whether romance or music came first for us and the answer is always “the lines were always blurry.” We’ve been married now over a decade and touring musicians for 13 years. We left Mississippi to live in Athens, Georgia and then tried van-lifing. When we hit a deer on the interstate, leaving our van/home totaled, we accepted an invitation to move in with some friends in Nashville. We’ve been here ever since (though we did move out of our friends’ house).
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I’m not sure anyone has ever gone into music thinking it would be a smooth road. Every year, there seems to be a new technology designed to keep musicians from getting paid a decent living. But some roads you take because you know it’s going to be a bumpy ride. That’s the thrill of it. We’ve taken the road less travelled and have lived rich lives on account of it. Plus, the struggles make for better stories. I’ve talked about the 10 point buck that crossed the interstate and changed our lives until I’m blue in the face. The shows with hecklers are always more fun to talk about than the ones where it all goes according to plan. That’s the joy of the business.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Oh Jeremiah is a singer/songwriter duo out of Old Hickory TN. We’ve released three full length records and our newest song, Gravestones, comes out July 24th. We’re proud of the way we blend storytelling, heartfelt songs, and jokes into our live set. No one said you can’t be serious and have a real good time!
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I love the village specifically. There’s not another place in the world like it. I know all of my neighbors. I go to Dose coffee on my street just to get my people fix. It’s my Cheers. It’s a slower pace here and I appreciate the tempo of it. If I ever want the “business” of Music City, it’s just crossing the bridge and I’m in the thick of it. And, aside from the price of parking, I don’t have many complaints.
