Today we’d like to introduce you to Jodi Wimberly.
Hi Jodi, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I got into makeup back in 2015 due to my surgery. I was on bed rest for 2 weeks and during that time I found my love my passion for makeup. From there I immediately started practicing/playing in makeup. I knew I wanted to work for a cosmetics company and in order for me to apply for MAC cosmetics, I needed a Portfolio so reached out to my family friends for assistance. Applied in February started working for them in July stayed for a few years and my love for makeup the art of it grew even more. I learned so much during my time there. The importance of skincare and skin prep before the makeup application. Working with all different types of cultures, skin types, etc. after I time with MAC I am now a freelance makeup artist who loves making up others making them feel even better about themselves. Meanwhile, I also started a cosmetics company selling lip-glosses, lashes, body butters, facial oils, skincare, glitters/pigment stacks, and even press on nails. I love all things beauty and when I am able to help anyone feel better about themselves makes it even that much better. Life is short and doesn’t owe us a thing. It’s up to us to turn lemons into lemonade.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not and stills isn’t a smooth road. It’s hard and can be discouraging. When you are trying to start a business for yourself it’s not easy and your family and friends may not understand the struggle. I will say it’s not easy. You do everything from marketing, taking pictures of your products, keeping up with inventory and the accounting, making sure you have products or making the products you need. When you go weeks without a sale or a makeup appointment, you have to remind yourself this too shall pass.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am the owner of JKbeau Cosmetics & JodiLynnMakeupArtistry. I am known for being creative DIY projects and if I can do it myself I will and I being my own glam squad. I’m mostly proud of myself for not giving up after my mom died. Never goes away it just gets a little easier. She didn’t leave me until I found something I love to do. She didn’t raise a quitter so I keep going regardless of how hard it is. Trust me there are many many many days I just want to give up. When you love what you are doing you never work a day in your life.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
Never give up. Great things take time and patience. Starting and running a business is a 24hr a day job. In addition, your greatest supporters are people you have not even met yet. Keep sharing your products your work because someone is watching. You may not get any views or any likes just keep sharing and posting anyway.
