Today we’d like to introduce you to Joe Jarvis.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I was born into a musical family, so music was an integral part of my life. It wasn’t until high school that I realized it was my passion and what I wanted to pursue a career in. After graduation, I performed in a few shows until the pandemic hit. 2020 was a challenging year for many, including myself, but it also provided an opportunity for reflection, stillness, and personal growth. As things were clearing up, in 2022, I won the Michigan State Fair Superstar Competition, which cracked open the doors for my music career.
After touring for a couple of years and opening for some of CCM’s top artists, I launched a ministry called “Love N Laughs” in 2023 with some friends. Love N Laughs is a ministry that travels to churches across the country, performing music/comedy shows to raise awareness about mental health struggles, share the love of Jesus, and connect people with their communities through local Celebrate Recovery groups, all with no cost to the church. What’s different about these shows is that we don’t just highlight issues, we connect people with their local Celebrate Recovery groups, which provide lasting help and support long after we’ve left town.
Last year, I released my debut album, “Love is a Verb,” and I’m already working on my next album in the studio. I’m thrilled to share the new sound and direction of my new project, “Empowered.”
You’ll be hearing some new singles very soon!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
One of the greatest challenges I faced, especially at the beginning, was finding the strength to believe in myself and to fully trust God. I felt God calling guiding me towards an unconventional path, to say the least. It’s an unsettling feeling when you take a step forward, uncertain if anyone or anything will catch me, if everything will ultimately work out. Despite God’s unwavering provision and clear indication that I’m on the right path, doubts still creep in at times even to this day. However, I suppose that’s simply a part of being human, nothing new under the sun. Even the Israelites, after just being delivered from Egypt, couldn’t help but complain and doubt God’s love for them and that He had it under control. I believe that love is a choice, like my last album stated, “Love is a Verb”
I also believe that faith is a choice, not always a feeling. It’s an action, unwavering because you know it’s the right thing to do, despite your doubts. That’s the way I want to live my life, unafraid and running into the fire.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I wear many hats in my line of work, from writing and producing to booking and performing, and even merch creations and sales. It can be a lot, but I’m grateful for my supportive family who helps me out whenever I need it. Even when it gets overwhelming, I love what I do and wouldn’t trade my life for anything.
Growing up, one of my greatest fears: having an office job. Maybe it was the thought of being stuck in a monochrome cubicle all day, clicking buttons. To those who have that life, I commend you! But for me, I love being on the road, meeting new people, and experiencing new things. Guess you could say I’m a free spirit. While the grind can be tough and sometimes uncertain, I get to have a life of adventure and fulfillment. And here’s to looking forward to many more years ahead, because I don’t plan on letting up anytime soon!
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
What can I say? The best part of traveling is experiencing the pros and cons of different cities – that’s why I love what I do, to be able to experience EVERYTHING, because everywhere has its own unique beauty.
It may be a cop out answer, but it’s truly how I feel.
