Daily Inspiration: Meet John Murphy

Today we’d like to introduce you to John Murphy

Hi John, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
After 23 years in the music industry as a fashion Stylist, John Murphy, and his Real Estate agent partner, Dennis King sold their house on Music Row and bought an 1850’s plantation farmhouse and 22 acres and changed the trajectory of their lives. Since buying the property in 2020 they’ve added the adjacent properties and renovated them both to be used for event and retreat space. In addition to doing individual energy work sessions and hosting Meditation and Sound Bath Retreats, they have started booking other events. From Commitment Ceremonies, Weddings and Celebrations of Life, to Farm to Table Dinner Parties, or Bridal and Baby Showers. King Murphy’s Retreat is looking to provide you with and intimate location for your smaller gatherings. Whether 10 guests or 100, each individual will feel the love, empathy and compassion that goes into every detail.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
With great change often comes great trials. Making this transition from the Music Business during 2020 and the onset of Covid brought its trials, but we used that time of uncertainty to build and expand the gardens and trails on the land. We also added seven beehives to start our Apiary.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
John began his career as a Fashion Stylist after moving to Nashville in 1997. His first job in the industry was as a wardrobe assistant on a Garth Brooks video. After working in Nashville for nearly three years he moved to LA and signed with the Fred Segal Beauty Agency where he worked with a variety of actors and entertainers for Red Carpet Events, Award Shows and Magazine Editorials. John went on tour with Rascal Flatts in 2005 and continued until 2011. After coming off the road, John decided to focus on building his own brand. He continues to work on various aspects of Art Direction, within the Country Music Industry. Some of his past clients include Rascal Flatts, Sharon Stone, Jason Aldean, Easton Corbin, Jeremy Piven, Colin Farrell, Chase Bryant, Jackie Lee, Jo Dee Messina, Lindsay Ell, Jon Pardi, Caroline Bryan, Dustin Lynch, and Jon Pardi.

John began studying energy work in 2014 as a treatment for his own addictive behaviors. After working with various Energy Healers, and exploring multiple modalities, he continued his own spiritual journey when he was introduced to Colleen McCann and Stephen Feely with the Pampamasayok Shaman School. Through the school, he’s been trained in the Q’ero line of Peruvian Shamanism and was certified as Shamanic Energy Practitioner in 2017. He has since become one of the instructors, and staff members of the school. John uses various modalities of energy work in his sessions, including both Shamanic and Theta Touch principals, along with multiple divination techniques, to give a well-rounded session and open pathways that allow the client to look at themselves and their lives in a new light.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
I’ve found that finding a mentor can be easiest when you open your heart to the possibility of the extraordinary. We are often so focused on the idea of perfection, and finding the person we think we need to learn from, and in the process we overlook the mentor we might need the most. Allow the Universe to place the people you need in your path and trust that they are exactly what you need, even if it doesn’t make sense to you right away.
