Daily Inspiration: Meet Jordan McCullough

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordan McCullough.

Hi Jordan, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
October 23, 1998, I was born to two young adults trying to figure life out. Being raised solely by my mother with a very present father, I learned to be more independent and grew up fast from a young age. I gained a passion for music, being introduced to multiple artists during the emotionally relevant times both of my parents were going through. Through life, music gave me multiple platforms to showcase my faith in God. Singing in church since 4, then heading to one of the biggest stages in the industry. I appeared on season 17 of NBC’s The Voice. All of my experiences and opportunities led me to the best stage I’ve ever been on. Leading worship at one of the most influential churches in the Nashville area.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Going through the motions as a kid who had to grow up fast. I didn’t realize life was hard until I grew up and looked back at everything I had to overcome and accomplish to be where I am. Facing emotional trauma for the way I looked. Being the bigger kid growing up always created a spotlight. While masking the truth about being the “Church Kid,” everyone already knew I was. I made it very apparent to fit in with crowds that encouraged shunned upon behavior just to find inclusion.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I currently work in the Property Management industry. This was a position I gained by default after chasing my dreams and appearing on TV. Reality hit and I needed to find a good-paying job. Because I burned the resources I needed to be successful in college. That was no longer an option for me at the time. I have been in this industry for 3 years. Deep down, it’s something I never wanted to do or even saw myself doing. In that feeling, I gained a deep passion for expressing my worship through social media. My platform started to grow and I was being recognized by other larger artists and platforms on these sites. I was given the opportunity to appear on a YouTube series, “The Terrell Show.” Giving me my first glimpse into the music industry, I was initially turned off to the thought that I could even be a Pop or R&B artist. Leading me to where I am today. I was given the opportunity to lead worship at an amazing church. This church not only allows me the creative freedom to dwell in my artistry publicly. But also, the sense of ambition to keep pushing through my professional career. Hopefully to one day wash my hands clean of that industry and work solely on expressing my faith publicity for Christ.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
I love the ambition in our city. There is not one street that you can go down, that you won’t see someone giving it their all just to “make it.”

The part I don’t like so much is the lack of community and resources. It seems that once you find the recipe for success in this city, it’s kept a secret. No one wants to help build others up.

Maybe that’s when I should create my own recipe!
