Daily Inspiration: Meet Jyou

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jyou .

Hi Jyou, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
I’ve always been in love with music since birth! My parents and family members always used to tell me how good I was at reciting every lyric to every song on the radio. My big sister joy and my cousin Jonathan are my 2 biggest influences as far as music. They’ve put me on to so much and really expanded my musical taste. I’ve always been a writer as well, whether it’s short stories, raps, or poems. Writing is a way to release my feelings and thoughts, as well as express myself in my own way. In 2019 I started taking music seriously, worked, and released a couple of projects with my boy K.O.N. It’s been history ever since!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The path is never smooth, if it is you’re not doing it right. It’s always a struggle when you’re a perfectionist because I feel like we’re also part-time procrastinators. Life is very hectic, and for a minute I was juggling a lot of responsibilities and focusing less on what I want. This takes a toll on a person, especially when I couldn’t put my main focus in something I love which is music. There is also the struggle with money & resources. As a creator, ideas flow like the river but initial thoughts may not be in my price range. So, budgeting and learning how to use different resources to get the same point across is often a challenge we face.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am an artist, writer, and creator. I’m known right now for my music, but I want to become more established in my city as an artist of the future. I specialize in writing and producing music, creating and writing up music videos and shorts. I’m trying to expand my talents by working on an instrument and also getting into cinematography. I’m most proud of the work I put in this past year. In the summer I told myself I wanted to start performing to get my name out, and since then I’ve performed over 15+ times in state and out. This was a really special because I haven’t released too much this year yet people still showed love. Also, I got to make some life memories with my bros that I’ll never forgot. I believe what makes me different is my ideas. Everything I do is intentional. Even the video I just released on my Instagram and YouTube page with my single this year ‘G.L.C.’ is conceptual, a whole story that goes with the song. I don’t know too many folks doing. that locally.

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?

The state that I’m in right now, I am what matters the most to me. I hate to sound selfish but I think it’s is a point in everyone’s life where they must do things that are best for them. I must operate with consistency and discipline that will help me grow ultimately as person and become the best version of myself.
