Today we’d like to introduce you to Katie James
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
To be honest getting started is a very loose term for me. I grew up always wanting to be a singer so from the ripe age of 5 I was writing songs and doing everything I could to get involved in music in my area. Unfortunately, while I love where I grew up, there wasn’t many performing opportunities outside of choir and band. So you could say that I started honing in on my love for music since I was 5, but I think my real journey/progress started when I moved to Nashville. I came down to Nashville for school and ended up falling in love with performing around town! I started playing 2-5 shows every week and just writing as many songs as I could. Since then I’ve begun to release music and have continued to play and meet new people around town!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Honestly nothing is ever a smooth road. There have been challenges with finding the right people to contact, limited venues due to my age, the advancement of social media’s importance in my career, etc. But I’m just navigating everything as I go!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
As an artist, I spend most of my time writing songs and performing! I think my energy is something that stands out in my artistry and I think that translates to my music! Honestly, I’m just super proud of the fact that I’ve released music! Before I moved to Nashville, I didn’t know that was a thing I could do without a record label and the fact that I’ve released 9 songs now within 2 years just blows my mind!
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
Honestly I love how the city feels smaller and smaller with the more people you meet! It’s super cool to show up at a music venue and know half of the people there just because you’ve been around! However, since there’s so much music all the time it’s hard to really catch someone’s attention and as a performer that’s definitely discouraging, but ultimately I think that it just makes you work harder to stand out!
