Daily Inspiration: Meet Kelly Roland

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelly Roland.

Hi Kelly, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
In May 2019, I decided that I was going to learn candle-making as a hobby. I wanted to learn a safer, healthier way to burn candles in my home. After many hours of research, I discovered which oils are better to use coupled with the type of wax to have the cleanest burn possible. We all like our home to smell nice, but I didn’t want to sacrifice the health of my family and fur babies. I started practicing with plain soy wax and certified clean oils from a distributor. I used a cotton wick and the “typical” glass jar for my candles.

As time passed, I realized that I greatly enjoyed candle making and I also wanted to solve the issue of people purchasing chemically filled candles and fragrances for their space that weren’t very healthy for them or the environment. So, in Spring 2021, I decided to make a business out of my favorite hobby! After careful thought and consideration, I decided to learn how to make cement vessels for my candles and learn hemp soy wax. I wanted to stand out from any other candle business and put as much of who I am into it.

After a lot of time, practice, and even a name change, Divinity Stardust Co. was born in August 2021. The name comes from the concept of we are all divine beings made of stardust. Spirituality is a huge part of who I am and this name fits perfectly with my vision.

We use the most luxurious hemp soy wax that is vegan and all-natural. All of the scents are masterfully blended to make a unique and exclusive scent and are all clean burning. Our candles also include a natural crackling wooden wick adding another layer to the experience. Also, the candles are in cement vessels that we create and are reusable. The names of our scents in itself are distinctive. Names like “Euphoria”, “Luxe”, “Regal”, “Enchanted”, “Savor”, etc., will give you an idea of how much we strive to give our customers the BEST experience.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road. I struggled with finding an identity for my business. There are so many candle businesses but I had to figure out what set me apart from all others while still being true to who I am. Once I figured this out, my foundation was built.

Being a single mom of 2 teenagers, I had the struggle of balancing being a mom, giving time and focus to building this business, time for myself, and working a full-time job all at the same time. I still at times struggle to find balance with everything but, it has gotten easier with time.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I have been a Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) for 8 years. I was employed with a huge hospital here in Nashville right out of school where I took care of heart failure patients for 2 years. I left there and went to another hospital as a floater, which was super exciting because I got to learn new skills working with a lot of different specialty doctors.

I currently work for a local small business where I get to help patients in another way. Being more of an administrative medical assistant, processing their medical claims. I am known for my positive and encouraging attitude. I love to brighten people’s day and encourage them to be a light to others.

I am most proud of my perseverance through tough times.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
My favorite childhood memory was going to Disney World with my family when I was 11. Everything was so magical getting a special photo with Mickey, the parade, and seeing Cinderella’s castle.

I will never forget how happy I was on that day and how spending time with my family was so amazing.

Of course, being in Florida, that was my first time seeing the ocean as well.
