Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelsey Sanderson.
Hi Kelsey, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My sister and I started TN Sisters Explore in May 2026 as a fun way to share the places and experiences we were already enjoying around Tennessee. We’re both moms, so we especially love finding coffee shops, restaurants, small businesses, unique experiences, and family-friendly places that feel worth getting out of the house for.
What started as something fun has grown much faster than we expected. Over the last few months, we’ve built a really engaged community on Instagram and TikTok and have had the opportunity to work with local businesses, attend experiences, and create content that helps people discover new places throughout Middle Tennessee and beyond.
I’ve really fallen in love with the creative side of it—filming, editing, storytelling, and finding ways to showcase a business in a way that feels genuine and makes people want to experience it for themselves. We’re still early in our journey, but seeing the response from both our audience and local businesses has made me excited to keep growing and see where it takes us.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road, but I think that’s part of building something from the ground up. One of the biggest challenges has been balancing content creation with everyday life and motherhood. Between kids, work, school schedules, and everything else that comes with family life, finding the time to consistently get out, create, edit, and post can be a lot.
We’ve also had to learn so much as we go. When we started, we were really just sharing places we loved, and since then I’ve had to learn more about filming, editing, storytelling, pitching businesses, building partnerships, and understanding what our audience responds to.
Another challenge has been staying consistent even when a post doesn’t perform the way we hoped. Social media can be unpredictable, so I’ve learned not to measure success by one reel or one number. I try to focus more on creating useful content, supporting local businesses, and continuing to grow the community we’ve built.
Overall, the challenges have pushed me to become more creative, consistent, and confident, and I think that has been one of the most rewarding parts of the journey.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’ve been a hairstylist for about 17 years, and over that time I’ve built a career that allows me to combine creativity with the relationships I’ve formed with my clients. I currently work independently from my home salon, specializing in color, highlights, balayage, and cuts.
One of the things I’m most proud of is the loyal clientele I’ve built over the years. Many of my clients have been with me for a long time, and I think that comes from not only caring about the finished result, but also making people feel comfortable, listened to, and confident when they leave my chair.
What sets me apart is that I really try to tailor each appointment to the individual rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach. Hair is such a personal thing, and I love being able to use creativity while still creating something that feels wearable and true to the person.
More recently, I’ve also found another creative outlet through content creation, which has been exciting because it uses a lot of the same things I’ve always loved about hairstyling — creativity, connecting with people, and helping others discover something that makes them feel good.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
I think consistency has been one of the most important qualities in my success. I’ve learned that growth usually doesn’t come from one big moment, but from continuing to show up, put in the work, and keep improving even when the results aren’t immediate.
That has been true throughout my career as a hairstylist, where building trust and long-term relationships with clients takes time, and it has also been true with TN Sisters Explore. Creating content consistently, reaching out to businesses, learning what works, and continuing even when every post doesn’t perform the way I hoped has taught me a lot.
I also think being dependable and genuinely caring about the people I’m working with has played a big part in that consistency. Whether it’s a client in my chair or a business we’re featuring, I want people to feel like I put real thought and effort into what I do.
