Daily Inspiration: Meet Kendal Beard

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kendal Beard.

Hi Kendal, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Back in 2016, my family packed up our cozy English life and set our sights on Nashville—a leap across the pond and straight into the unknown. When we learned it would cost more to ship our belongings than to simply begin again, we looked at each other, shrugged, and thought, Well… why not?
So we sold, donated, and gifted away everything. In the end, our entire life fit into six humble suitcases—mostly clothes, a few toys for our then–3-year-old, and a handful of treasured keepsakes. It felt wildly liberating, like we were breaking some unspoken rule—mischief makers in the best possible way.

Somewhere between letting go and starting fresh, I became mesmerized by the idea of simple living. I devoured minimalist podcasts, soaked up every insight like an over-eager sponge, and noticed life beginning to feel lighter, brighter, roomier—like we had traded clutter for magic.

That cross-continental adventure didn’t just bring us to Nashville; it opened a door to my passion. I discovered how deeply I loved helping others untangle their homes and breathe again. And so, Minimalist Mischief was born—a small business with a big heart and a playful wink.

Now, I get to help people declutter their spaces and, in turn, their minds. Watching the weight lift off someone’s shoulders when they release the “too much” is pure joy. Because in a world racing to keep up with the Joneses—only to find the Joneses exhausted and overwhelmed—choosing simplicity feels downright rebellious.

Minimalist Mischief is here to help people rediscover what matters most: family, experiences, calm, and that delicious feeling of breathing room. Let’s clear the clutter and make a little magic.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Life is anything but smooth—more like a winding path with a few surprise potholes and the occasional unexpected detour. But honestly, that’s where the growth happens. Nothing is ever quite as effortless as it appears from the outside.
One of my biggest challenges has been helping people release the heavy feelings of judgment or shame about their homes. Decluttering is deeply personal, and many of my clients carry guilt, embarrassment, or struggles with anxiety or ADHD. Creating a space where they feel safe, understood, and genuinely cared for is absolutely essential to me.
And I’ll be honest—this work can be physically demanding. Some days feel like a full-body workout with a side of emotional support. But every bit of effort is worth it.
Because for me, this job is never just about making a house look pretty. It’s about the person who lives there—their story, their peace, their fresh start. The transformation on the inside matters just as much as the one on the outside..

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
In my organizing work, I focus on helping clients gently ask themselves a simple—but powerful—question: Is this item truly serving you and your family? Would you even notice it if it disappeared tomorrow? If the answer is no, then why let it take up precious space, time, and energy in your home?
I also love working with what clients already have. Many organizing services ask people to buy loads of matching bins and containers to fit a certain aesthetic. That’s not my style. I prefer to use what’s already available so things stay affordable, practical, and personal—no projecting my taste onto someone else’s sanctuary.
And above all, I like to keep things fun. I’ve arrived at clients’ homes where they’re so nervous they’ve barely slept, worried I might judge them. My goal is the exact opposite. I want my clients to feel relaxed, supported, and free to laugh with me as we tackle the chaos together. This journey should feel uplifting—not stressful.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
Nashville is such a vibrant, creative wonderland—truly a city of dreamers. I grew up in Northwest England, where the unspoken rule is to keep your feet firmly on the ground: don’t dream too big, be grateful for what you have, and definitely don’t ask for more. So when I landed in Nashville, I was stunned by how kind and encouraging everyone was. Here, if you have a dream, people don’t just nod politely—they cheer you on and tell you to go for it with full gusto.
Every corner of Nashville seems to sparkle with a mural, a splash of color, or some quirky piece of art, and I absolutely adore that.
What do I love least? The giant, slightly terrifying summer bugs. Those I could happily do without! Ha!
