Daily Inspiration: Meet Kenzie Crowe

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kenzie Crowe.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I have been playing music ever since I was six or seven. I started on classical cello and my love grew from there. I didn’t pick up a guitar until around 16 and didn’t start writing my own songs until then either. I joined fiddle bands, played in the orchestra, and then finally started pursuing a solo music career.

My sister and parents joined me in a family band. Then around 2018, I met a friend who loved the white stripes about as much as I do. We started jamming and created the band Girl Tones. She wasn’t as interested in keeping the band as I was, so I started looking for a different drummer. I put fliers up around town and everything!

Finally, it somehow worked out that my sister Laila would truly be the perfect fit. I’m so glad it ended up this way, there is truly no better way for this band to work than with my family. My parents and fiancé have been extremely helpful to us. We couldn’t do it without them!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There are always hiccups in anything you want to pursue in life, but generally speaking, we have been lucky to be so close to Nashville.

Jarvis, the owner of Tidball’s in Bowling Green has been an amazing help throughout all these years, allowing us to play when we were probably not the greatest sounding. He encouraged us to keep going and still does.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a musician from Bowling Green, KY. I’ve been playing music for 16 years. I think what sets us apart from others is being a sibling duo. Our connection on stage is so important in our performance, I think people really like that.

I am proud of both of us for holding our own throughout the years. There have been moments of insecurity, but you know how sometimes you feel destined to do something? That’s how we feel about music.

What’s next?
We are hoping to get some new music out later this year, as well as add new layers of instrumentation to the mix. We don’t want to be bound to a specific type of music. We are working on touring more as well, hopefully, the West Coast soon!
