Daily Inspiration: Meet Kiersten Rae Lasley

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kiersten Rae Lasley

Hi Kiersten Rae, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’ve known since I was a little kid that I wanted to be a musician. My parents tell me I was constantly writing songs, singing in the backseat of their car and always gathering up the family to perform little shows for them. Fast forward to high school, where I started to take the writing side more seriously. During that time, I felt so strongly that I needed to apply to Belmont University for their Songwriting Major. While at Belmont, I learned so much about the craft of songwriting as well as the music business, and discovered I had a passion for writing for other artists. Now I write songs 5 days a week and love it!

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has not always been a smooth road pursing songwriting. Graduating during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic was a big struggle. I felt like any momentum I had gained while I was in school was gone. But I got plugged in with ASCAP, NSAI & GrammyU right away, and started writing over Zoom every day. I’m grateful I learned how to write virtually because it is a skill I still use on a regular basis. I get to write with friends in Texas, LA, New York, Canada and even Australia! What a blessing to get to create with people around the world.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a songwriter in Nashville writing 5 days a week, working with up-and-coming pop, country, folk and Christian artists & writers in town. I produce demos, write custom songs and work in sync.

Another part of my job is performing my music, and I’ve been blessed to play at some incredible places including the legendary Bluebird Cafe, The Listening Room & Tin Pan South Songwriting Festival. I’ve also had my songs performed by other artists on some amazing stages including Key West Songwriters Festival.

I’ve had some exciting opportunities through the years, including winning the 2024 Nashville Songwriters Association International (NSAI) Annual Song Contest, winning the 2024 ASCAP Peggy Lee Songwriter Award, receiving the 2024 Bob Kingsley Award for most songs in the NSAI Top 40 list, having a cut featured on RadioSoBro Nashville, being a semi-finalist in American Songwriters 2023 annual contest, being a finalist in U.S.A Songwriting’s 2022 annual contest, placing TOP 10 in NSAI’s 2022 Global Chapter Challenge and being named “One’s To Watch” by NSAI.

I’m so grateful for all of the doors that God has opened & the amazing people He’s placed in my life to help me along my journey. Shoutout to my sweet husband Carson, my wonderfully supportive parents and all of my amazing mentors & champions in Nashville including Sarah Flick, Kele Currier, Liz Hengber, Brian White, Allison Barrett, Jill Moody, Nora Webb and so many others. Thank you all!

What makes you happy?
Of course making music with my friends makes me happy, but my true source of joy comes from Jesus. To quote one of my songs: “The point of my life, is to point it to HIS.” To know God & to make Him known is my ultimate sense of purpose and fulfillment. “I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in Him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit.” – Romans 15:13
