Today we’d like to introduce you to Kim Perrett.
Hi Kim, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Fashion and music have always been intertwined in my life.
Growing up in Nashville, with a father in the music industry, I was surrounded by the sounds of country, southern rock, and classic rock. But it wasn’t just the music that caught my attention—it was the imagery. The album covers, the stage clothes, the way artists moved and expressed themselves through style left a lasting impression on me.
I eventually enrolled in fashion merchandising school, but my path took a detour. I left, hit the road with the Grateful Dead tour, traveled the country, and began making dresses and jewelry. That journey ultimately led me to set work, where I found my calling.
I spent years assisting established stylists, learning the craft from the ground up, until I was ready to step out on my own. In the beginning, the jobs were small—often with no budget, pulling looks from a client’s own wardrobe—but I took everything that came my way. Over time, some of those early artists began to rise, opening doors to red carpets, editorial photo shoots, and televised performances.
Now, with over 20 years in the industry, I’ve honed my skills in curating style that tells a story. Each client is different, and I love drawing from their personal influences—whether shaped by music, family, or life experiences—to create an authentic image and connect them with brands and designers that amplify their voice.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Looking back, my career has been full of ups and downs. As a creative running my own business, I’ve had to wear many hats—from stylist to marketer to accountant. I thrive on the creative side, but the business side didn’t come naturally. Learning to navigate budgets, contracts, and the constant hustle has been a challenge, but it’s also taught me resilience, adaptability, and the importance of building lasting relationships.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a fashion stylist specializing in musicians and celebrities, with a style rooted in rock influences and a unique blend of organic, earthy elements and rock ’n’ roll edge.
Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of styling some of the most inspiring artists in the industry, including Sheryl Crow, Jack White, Tedeschi Trucks Band, GAYLE, Grace Bowers, and Little Big Town.
What sets me apart is my ability to merge an organic, down-to-earth sensibility with bold, performance-ready style—paired with decades of cultivating relationships with designers and brands around the world. This combination allows me to create looks that feel authentic to each artist while making a lasting visual impact.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
The most important qualities in my work are the relationships I’ve built—with designers, managers, record labels, and, most importantly, the artists themselves.
