Daily Inspiration: Meet Kylie Brown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kylie Brown

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started singing at swim team talent shows when I was 5 years old. My mom always says I was born singing. I began to write little jingles which turned into full-length songs by the age of 8. During the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, I picked up the guitar and piano and started to focus my freetime entirely on music. I soon got asked to play live music shows in my hometown of Northern VA which later turned into weekly gigs. My family and I started to take trips to Nashville so I could play music there whenever I got the chance. At age 16 (my current age), my family allowed me to chase my dreams and move to Nashville. I’ve been living in Nashville for 5 months now, and I’m playing shows daily, releasing new music monthly, and I have been working so hard! I’m honored to say I’ve been able to play at the World-Famous Bluebird Cafe multiple times now, which was always a huge dream of mine growing up.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I haven’t had too many hiccups yet, thankfully, but I’m prepared for whatever comes my way. I’ve always been a stubborn and determined girl, and I have always had big dreams. I will not give up and know that it will not always be a smooth ride. The biggest hurdle I’ve faced so far has been my age. Being sixteen, a lot of live music venues in Nashville require you to be at least eighteen or twenty one even just to walk in.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a junior at Liberty Creek High School in Gallatin, Tennessee. This is my first year at Liberty Creek because I spent my freshman and sophomore year at Westfield High School in Northern VA before I moved to Nashville. I’m a student by day and a recording artist/live performer at night. The minute the school bell rings, I head straight to either the studio to record a new song, a co-write, or a live music show on Broadway. I play shows about 4-6 times a week typically. I have somehow managed to maintain good grades in school and have enjoyed getting involved in my high school’s choir. I’ve made some great friends and really love Liberty Creek. I’m super busy, but I would not change my fun little music life for the world!

Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
While COVID-19 was a tragic event, it was a huge stepping stone in me becoming the artist I am today. I was in sixth grade when the pandemic struck, and I was fortunate enough to find a guitar and piano teacher to give me lesson even through the madness. During my online school sessions, I would practice playing guitar and would start to write real songs. I started to write seriosuly and really found that I had a passion for songwriting.
