Daily Inspiration: Meet Lane Williams

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lane Williams.

Hi Lane, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born here in Nashville, TN, but spent my childhood residing in Pleasant View, TN up until I was about 12 when my family moved back to the big city. I always had a love for beauty as a kid. I loved playing around with makeup and doing my mom & sister’s hair. In growing up in the generation that I did, going to beauty school wasn’t the “it” thing to do career-wise back in the day.

So, I have university a fair shot, but after 2 years, I just knew that it wasn’t where I needed to be. After I dropped out, I came home to Nashville & really tried to find a passion outside of beauty, but it never came along. In my spare time, I found myself still dabbling in my beautiful dream. I did bridal hair and makeup for a time and found such joy in it. No job ever made me as happy as making people feel like their most confident selves. Finally, at the age of 21, I decided that it was time to give my dream the fair shot that I gave everything else.

I enrolled in Esthetics to continue in my journey to becoming a Professional Makeup Artist. Through school, I actually ended up putting makeup on the back burner to pursue other interests. I wanted to absorb as much as possible and stay open-minded, but I also had skill sets that I had no interest in obtaining. By the time I had graduated from school, I didn’t have a solid niche that I wanted to hone in on. I tried doing Lash Extensions, and it just wasn’t for me.

I didn’t have much of an interest in going into skincare full time, and I had lost touch with doing makeup over that year I found myself stuck. It’s hard to say as someone who has been offering body waxing for 4 years, that it was absolutely not my first choice of services. I loathed waxing in school, but at that time it was my only option. So, I swallowed my pride, and went to work for a local inclusive waxing salon in East Nashville, Little did I know, body waxing would become my true passion and purpose in Esthetics.

Fast forward a year and a half, the city of Nashville shuts down due to Covid-19. While I appreciated the break, it gave me a lot of time to think about where I saw my future in this industry and what I wanted to do moving forward. I wanted more freedom in containing my career. So I decided to take matters into my own hands and open up a small solo space for myself.

Opening up a small business is no easy task, but I am more than grateful to be where I am almost 2 years later. I have expanded spaces, added new services and skills, hired my first team member this spring, I have a training program that is launching sometime this summer, and it’s not going to stop there. It has been a hard journey that I am never sure where it will go, but right now I only see ahead and it’s looking pretty bright.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Definitely not, but that’s a part of life, right? I remember spending sleepless nights wondering “What if this doesn’t work out?”, “What if this all comes crashing down?”

I spent months before and even after opening for business so afraid of failure. That feeling never goes away either, but I’ve learned to not let those negative thoughts consume me.

Take a risk, try your best, and give it your all and it will all be worth it. No matter the outcome.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
For the last 4 years, I have specialized in Full Body Waxing for ALL individuals.

I have spent years perfecting my techniques in waxing people of all sizes, gender identifications, sexual orientations, skin color, ethnicities, etc. I also am a Natural Eyebrow Artist. So, it goes from as simple to just a brow clean up, to as far as the most popular brow trend out on the market. I am 2x certified in Brow Lamination and Henna Brow Tinting.

I take so much pride in the inclusivity of what my salon has to offer. I am a lover of all people! So, creating a safe space for everyone to feel welcomed, loved, and all-out feeling more confident than when they walked in is my mission.

Whether through body waxing or brows, you are the star of the show through your appointment!
