Today we’d like to introduce you to Laura Wright.
Hi Laura, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Although I missed the sourdough craze during the pandemic, I’ve since found my own path. Bread has been a constant presence in my life, from my childhood to raising my own family. My oldest son’s limited palate made bread a staple, but I knew I needed a better option than store-bought breads. This sparked my journey into bread baking, where I experimented with various ingredients and techniques. As I shared my creations with loved ones, interest grew, and I began selling loaves to neighbors and friends. The Village Sourdough emerged, and with time, I gained the confidence to approach a local store, Mike’s Foodland, about selling my bread. The success was remarkable, and after a year of baking in my Dutch ovens, I invested in a professional oven. My family’s support has been invaluable in turning my passion into a business. We’re excited to see where this journey takes us
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
As a sourdough baker, I strive for perfection in every loaf. If it doesn’t meet my standards, I consider it a misfit, even if customers love it. I also worry about not offering enough variety, but I focus on mastering a few products rather than having a large menu. Imposter syndrome often kicks in, but positive feedback from customers helps me overcome my doubts.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am thrilled to have received recognition with a red ribbon at the 2024 state fair for our classic sourdough, and this year, we achieved first place in the miscellaneous category for our cheddar and jalapeno flavor, which was showcased in the 2025 state champion case. I take pride in offering my products in stores, providing busy professionals with access to fresh bread even if they can’t make it to market. Our organic bread is a product I take great pride in, as I firmly believe that quality ingredients are essential. I am meticulous in selecting the finest ingredients for my products, and I am confident that this attention to detail sets my business apart. I make our own custom organic artisan blend in house resulting in a unique and flavorful product. We use Celtic Sea Salt in all of our products. In addition, I have developed an exceptional sourdough brown butter chocolate chip cookie that has become a signature item and customer favorite
