Daily Inspiration: Meet Layla Rose

Today we’d like to introduce you to Layla Rose

Hi Layla , we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born and raised in Gibraltar – on the shores of the Mediterranean and have been singing and writing country music for as long as I can remember. I wrote my first song when I was five years old and have been writing ever since. Gibraltar is a tiny British overseas territory located right beside Spain’s southern coast. My dad was my biggest musical influence while growing up and still is now. He is a singer/ songwriter and multi instrumentalist, so it was only a matter of time before I picked up a guitar and started singing and writing myself. I fell involve with country music because of Taylor Swift’s first three albums. Once I discovered my love for her music, I went on to find artists like Miranda Lambert, Johnny Cash and Eric Church, which grew my love for country music even further. I grew up playing acoustic and full band shows at home, in Gibraltar but I always wanted to get more out of music than just a hobby – I wanted to make it my entire life. Country music has never really been a popular genre in Gibraltar so my biggest dream has always been to move to Nashville, so I did. For the past three years I have been going to school at Middle Tennessee State University while juggling school, work, playing live shows and recording music. Since moving to Nashville, I have been fortunate enough to play various writers rounds, shows and record a number of singles at Blackbird Studio.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The biggest challenge I have faced along the way has been moving to the other side of the world alone, 4500 miles away from my family and everyone I love. Now that I have settled into my new life, it was definitely worth the hardships of moving away from home.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a country/ southern rock, singer/ songwriter from Gibraltar living in Nashville, TN. I am proud of my most recent three singles that I have released which can be found on all streaming platforms and were all recorded at Blackbird Studio here in Nashville. What sets me apart from others is my Mediterranean twang. I am a country artists from the other side of the world, highlighting that one doesn’t have to be from the country to feel it in their soul. I have so much love and respect for all kinds of country music, so I love to honour the genre in my songs, while adding my own Mediterranean twist to it.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
What makes me happiest is music and nature, especially both at the same time. There is no where I would rather be than at the beach, on a lake or a riverside, add country music to the mix and I am the happiest girl in the world. Music has always been the centre of my life, a safe haven for self expression and emotional processing. There is nothing that soothes my soul more than the sweet sound of country music. Having grown up on the beach and living close by to various rivers and lakes, I find a sense of safety in the water. There is no calmer place to me than by a body of water. Being immersed in nature is my happy place.
