Today we’d like to introduce you to Lekita Sims.
Hi Lekita, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I thank God first for lighting a fire in me that I didn’t even know existed. I always knew Him—since childhood—but not like this. Not in the power I now carry, not in the peace I now know. I’m also thankful for the village of strong women who shaped me: my mother, my stepmother, my aunts, my first lady, a nun, and the blessing of three grandmothers. They taught me the power of prayer, of love, of grit, and of faith. Before I was anything else—before the titles, the degrees, the ministries, or even the trials—I was a little Black girl from Chattanooga, Tennessee. I’ve lived a life that’s taken me across zip codes and city skylines: to the projects of Memphis to a close-knit Hispanic neighborhood in Sacramento, to eventually planting roots in Nashville, Tennessee. I graduated from Hunters Lane High School, obtain my Associates degree in Computer Accounting at Nashville State Community College, and my Bachelors in Management and Human Relations at Trevecca Nazarene University. I’m a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated and I currently serve as the Director of Operations for The Rock Academy.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There were many challenges on this journey: surviving a childhood marked by dysfunction, constant uprooting, carrying the burden of keeping my siblings together when everything around us was falling apart, becoming a mother right out of high school, lived through a house fire, church hurt, and a long list of silent battles that never made it into the testimonies people clap for. But I said “YES” to God. This meant seeing myself through God’s eyes, not through the lens of failure or shame. I didn’t come out of that season empty-handed; I came out with clarity, conviction, and calling.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
