Daily Inspiration: Meet Lisa Powell

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lisa Powell.

Hi Lisa, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I was born in Maryland where I wrote my first song at the age of thirteen, I continue to write off and on until I wrote my first contemporary gospel song.

I started singing around the neighborhood with friends until I moved to California at the age of eighteen, I then joined a church where I began to sing for twenty-two years. I married and moved to the Midwest where I met my producer and released my first album titled Running.

I have since released three more albums The Master Knows, Calvary, and Nothing On Me my latest single is I Will Not Fear. I have also won Songwriter of the year in 2017 and 2019. I am a radio show host on WESL 1400 Satellite radio every Sunday at three Central standard times.

I am author of the book practicality Though the Eyes of God

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
I can remember when I first started confidence was one of my downfalls, but as I begin to put songs out my confidence begins to build an I did what God suggested that I do, I encourage myself.

I was diagnosed with a brain tumor that did slow things down, but I did not stop I believe I wrote some of my best songs through treatment.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I have a degree in Child Family Studies and a certificate in behavior management of children, helping parents cope with their children may be fetal alcohol or drug exposure from the womb.

I worked as a lead teacher and worked my way up to director where I ran a school in Berkeley California until I medically retired. I’m most proud of myself that I achieve my goal.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
My parents, husband Kevin son Travis and close friends. They all encouraged me to push through and never give up.
