Daily Inspiration: Meet Luke Jones

Today we’d like to introduce you to Luke Jones.

Hi Luke, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started young. I was only 5 years old. Starting off, I never took it seriously. I never realized that my violin was my future until 10 years later. Today, I work hard on it. I discipline myself to practice.

Although I don’t want to practice on some days I still have to do it. Learning an instrument comes with discipline. Be prepared. Unless you want it to be a hobby, it’s going to be hard.

If you want to make music a professional life, dedicate yourself. I have worked endless hours trying to perfect certain songs. Or even playing in concerts with orchestras. All of the work, time, and money I have put into the violin will pay off one day when I use it for life and it pays me back for all of that.

One thing I have noticed is that you can’t give up. Although it might be hard or not fun, it could possibly be a candidate for your career one day. I want to tell all musicians out in the world, especially young musicians to never give up on their music. Never think you don’t sound good.

I sounded awful when I first started. But with consistent practice, you will be able to sound good.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely has not been a smooth road.

Some of the rough terrains have been self-inflicted due to a lack of motivation to practice. What it took me time to realize is that practice makes perfect.

And that over the years you mature with your mindset of what you want to do in life. From there you make it an investment.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I play for my church every week and have played in a music video for Kathy Trocolli. I like to play music people love.

I am most proud of my violin.

It has been a working investment. It’s 114 years old and I’m proud of the music I play with it. It is a piece of history. What sets me apart from others is my ear.

Ever since day 1 I have been able to pick a tune just by listening to it. I enjoy reading sheet music also, but In a church environment, it’s a life saver when improv and adlib are necessary.

What’s next?
My plan for the future is to continue to perfect music and be able to do it professionally.

To get to play in some of the beautiful halls around the world. And get to travel the world and share my music. And also I want to inspire people to maybe pick up an instrument.
