Daily Inspiration: Meet Marin Davis

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marin Davis

Hi Marin, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
As a military spouse it was difficult to find a fulfilling career let alone someone willing to hire you. In 2018 I decided even if I made no money I wanted to be doing something I loved so I started my marketing agency, Local Collaborative. It would allow work to travel with me and offer the freedom and flexibilities demanded of military spouses. We offer clients executive-level results with a hometown experience because good marketing doesn’t need to be extravagant in order to be great.

Not only have we helped hundreds of clients with digital and print marketing but we have also published a children’s book (Who Named The Door A Door: https://a.co/d/1uV07JT ) and an interactive journal (So You Want To Start A Business: https://a.co/d/eNFlnIf ) to help kids and teens wanting to start their first business.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
As an active duty spouse, the demands of my partner’s schedule are not in our hands so I have to be the flexible one. This has looked like 6-8 month deployments, trainings and last-minute call outs. Add in sick kids, personal and professional obstacles…you name it. There have been times I was working 8 pm-3 am to get client’s work done. It is up to you on if you push forward or give up.

We have been blessed to have three kids in four years intermingled with many health issues so I have learned the more I fight and push back, the more stressful it is. I love the freedom to adapt my business to fit my personal life and not the other way around.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m most proud of the fact that we aim to employ other military spouses and work-from-home parents. After beginning my business in 2018, I started with family and friends who owned businesses. Most were back home so I was 100 percent teleworking. Once we moved and I could start working more in-person we adapted. And again when I became a mom (three times) and moved across the country multiple times. There have always been unique challenges but limited time has by far been the most challenging. It’s a regular balance between prioritizing family-life and having a fulfilling career.

We’ve been known to stand apart because of how we can customize services for clients and being collaborative in referrals and projects.

We are also one of the only businesses who focus on mentorship for youth to learn about entrepreneurship through our book and workshops.

How do you think about happiness?
My best day ever would be distraction-free playtime with my kids. We love walking the dogs, hiking, working out together and exploring new cities. I love simplicity and peace. Once you realize to hold all things loosely, you let what’s meant for you stay and if it leaves, that is FINE.

I also love a great craft beer, so if anyone wants a walk and talk or stop in a local brewery I am your girl!
