Daily Inspiration: Meet Mark Hill

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mark Hill.

Hi Mark, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My name is Mark Hill, aka Doctor Nebula. I’m 52yrs old, and I’m the artist/creator of a comic book series called “The Space Safarians”, it’s the story of a team of super anthropomorphic animals who defend their world from extra-terrestrial threats. I originally hail from Fort Walton Beach, FL. I served 12 years in the US Army and finished my last enlistment at Fort Campbell, KY, where I moved to Nashville, TN, shortly after that. Drawing has always been my passion. I discovered my talent at the age of four and continued with it. I specialize in Illustration, Graphic Design, Cartooning, Animation, Creative Writing, and Video Editing. I have assembled a small group of friends who will help me achieve my goal of bringing my concept “The Space Safarians” to the masses.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been fairly smooth?
It has not been a smooth road for me as an artist. The struggle of trying to get my work noticed, financial problems, false promises made by others, dealing with my issues (i.e., anxiety and depression), and some personal family issues have sometimes shut me down. But as I said before, it’s my passion, my life’s dream, and I work to bring my story to the world.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
I am Mark Hill, aka “Doctor Nebula” I am a comic book artist with my comic book series entitled “The Space Safarians.” I specialize in Illustration, Sequential Art, Cartooning, Animation, Creative Writing, and Video Editing. I am best known for my cartooning skills and creativity. I am proud of my skills when I served in the US Army. Acknowledged my contribution to the post newspaper (a weekly comic strip called “Dog Face Soldiers” and when my first graphic novel was published. What sets me apart from my peers is my artistic style. It’s a blend of what I grew up watching (Hannah- Barbera cartoons), early anime cartoons, Star Wars, video games, and Electro- Hip Hop Music. All of these things shaped my style and also my alter ego, “Doctor Nebula.”

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
I’m a big fan of comic book conventions/festivals. I love that type of energy and people. I’ve made several small film shorts and want to do bigger projects like sci-fi movies or horror films with some comedy. I love reading comic books and mystery novels. I’ve designed my cosplay battle armor called “The Black Dynamo,” built my Lightsaber, and love vintage arcade games. I’m a big geek/nerd, and I love it.
