Today we’d like to introduce you to Mary Williams.
Hi Mary, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Photography has always been a passion of mine, ever since I was a kid. I have always come back to it, even when working full time. I majored in Photography at MTSU but changed my major to Advertising to be able to expand my skill set. Currently, I work for Freeman Webb Company as a full-time social media specialist. I am able to use my photography skills at work, along with my photography business. fomo photography was created due to my side-hustle expanding more and more as time went on. I felt it was important to put a name and brand to my business, rather than clients referring me to their friends as “my friend Mary”. I named my business fomo photography because my daughter and I suffer from FOMO in all instances of life. If we could clone ourselves so we would never miss out, we would!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Since I do it as a side-hustle, it has been pretty smooth. I can still do photography for fun and not feel the pressure of having to book a ton of shoots to make ends meet. The only rough part has been the price of photography equipment and barely breaking even from purchasing equipment!
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Capturing little moments in time has been the sweetest part of this photography journey. I love being able to capture families, couples, strong women, etc. in their element. Not so poised, but real, raw emotion and fun. fomo photography was named after “fear of missing out” because myself and my daughter struggle from fomo BAD, but when you book a session with me, you’ll never have to suffer from fomo because I’m able to capture moments and freeze them in time. No missing out, ever 🙂 I think what sets me apart is my ability to connect with people. I have worked in the Apartment Industry for 8 years now and was on-site for 7 of those years. Helping people find their homes, connecting with residents, problem-solving, etc. has really helped me get to know others on a deep level. I love creating and fostering relationships with my clients and growing with them. From engagement shoot to maternity shoot, to newborn shoot– seeing them grow is so fun and rewarding.
Any big plans?
I’m a “take things day-by-day” person to the core. I have two kids (Emmy is 8 and Jett is 1), so if I try to look too far into the future, I’ll flip out over things that haven’t happened yet! As of now, I plan to keep photography as my side business, because I enjoy my full-time job, too! I do hope to extend my portfolio with photography, keep learning and growing and get better and better as time goes on. I would love to attend some content getaways with other photographers in the area in the years to come!
