Daily Inspiration: Meet Mattie Taylor

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mattie Taylor.

Hi Mattie , thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
When I was 9 years old, my mama took me to a very well known vocal coach, Renee Grant Williams. I worked with her for a year and did local vocal competitions every year for a while. I posted covers on youtube, tried out for The Voice, worked with a branding artist development company. I started singing at farmers markets, fairs, festivals when I was 14. We got equipment and started booking anywhere we could find that books live music locally and hit the road. I recorded my first original song when I was 15 years old. I started working with Linda Davis on stage coaching when she asked me to perform with her at the Franklin TN Theatre(which was so cool). I started writing a lot, collaborating with other songwriters too, and doing songwriter rounds as well as my own shows. When I was 18, I filmed my first music video in Cross Plain TN at Thomas Drugs. I now have 7 original releases, that have been played on radios from my hometown Portland to Nashville to Illinois, 4 music videos that have been premiered on websites like The Country Note and All Country News. Now 20 years old, I’m still on this rewarding journey knowing the dream in my heart is there for a reason.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The biggest challenge as an artist is comparison, not being where you thought you would at this time, and understanding it’s a marathon, not a race. I’m so grateful for what i’ve been able to do, the opportunities that have come to me, but also knowing that it took hard work to get them.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I always say my super power is songwriting, it’s how I cope and process everything. I get to perform my own original songs, and see people connect with them. I have merch that says Amen and Yeehaw on it with a pink guitar (because i play a pink guitar) and it’s become apart of my brand. I even have a song called Amen To That that people at my shows shout “Amen” to and it’s so fun.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
My mama is my biggest cheerleader, she’s been through every single step with me, and she believes in me like no other. Nobody could ever beat that encouragement. I have had some awesome mentors that have furthered my career like Becky Parsons, who I work with now and adore so much. I have an incredible team of creatives like my producer Justin Wantz and my videographer Justin Mayotte.
