Daily Inspiration: Meet Maura Feaheny

Today we’d like to introduce you to Maura Feaheny.

Hi Maura, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I began my career at 14 when I decided to be an architect. I was born in Detroit, MI and raised through high school in the Detroit suburbs. My Mom loved art and exposed our family of 6 kids to art and design from an early age. Though she was a physicist and then Montessorian, she loved design – clothing, jewelry, and was always in awe of beautiful interior design. My father was an engineer who had a life long career in the automotive industry.

I have loved design & construction since my parents bought a 1940’s home that needed gut and remodel. When I was a freshman in high school, I had the pleasure of watching and engaging with the process of remodeling a 7 bedroom home with so much opportunity, complete with lots of bathrooms and 2 kitchens.

I went to architecture school at the University of Illinois. After college I moved to Chicago and worked for a few great architects, then moved into the commercial (retail and mixed-use) real estate development side of the industry. I worked in that industry managing interior renovations for retailers like Gucci, Banana Republic and Stuart Weitzman alongside with managing retail buildouts of Marshalls, DSW and LA Fitness. After a successful run in that world, I pivoted in 2013 to the senior living sector. In senior living, I managed areas like acquisition, design, facilities management and construction, while holding high level operations positions. My whole career before starting HOMEstretch involved lots of travel, so needless to say, I worked a lot of long hours which prepped me for my current career pivot.

In Spring of 2024, I decided to pursue opportunities which allowed me to stay in and around Nashville, while applying my lifelong career of design and construction. I discovered HOMEstretch which is a franchise business whichhad no presence in the Nashville market. I started HOMEstretch SW Nashville in October 2024 and love the ability to support so many great people. My company is swift to market to prepare homes for sale for best sale price and for speed to sale. We do painting, flooring, lighting, bathroom projects and kitchen projects — this company and our mission to help others build NOI wiht their existing home, is the sweet spot for my love for people, design and construction alike.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Starting any company is a struggle, as there is so much unknown and being that I was from out of town until 2020, I had some imposter syndrome questioning my ability as compared to so many established remodeling companies. Also, starting a new company, it is all about relationships and relationship building. While I love that part of the business, it is not income producing for some time. And you are only as good as your reputation. The other struggle is that I come from corporate jobs where I always delivered, but when you are a newbie in a service industry you are up against bad past experiences with realtors and home owners, so it took a good 6 months to establish that we would deliver on our promises of great design and expert construction in reasonable timelines.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
What I am most proud of is my stellar reputation that I pass along to my team, to always be listening to our clients while servicing them with the best practice advise. Our job is to grow the value of their home, so whether working with a buyer, a seller or a homeowner who is not selling, we are there to ensure timeless design standards are used for the expensive items, while we can have fun with the more “replaceable items”

I so love of the the happy faces of our clients – realtors and homeowners – at the end of projects. Design and construction is what we do with ease, our aim is to make it stress-free for our clients. Which is not always formulaic, as each project is unique. We spend and are responsible for large sums of money, we take our jobs very sincerely to protect our clients asset.

We distinguish ourselves not in being right, but by being the best we can be each and every day. We bring in experts for those pieces of the construction or design project that needs expertise.

Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
Going to Long Island every Summer to spend 4-6 weeks with my grandparents and my cousins. It was like an escape where we didn’t have to drive everywhere, rather we would walk or take our bikes around a very walkable community at the ocean that my grandparent’s lived in. We stayed in a very small home (3 bd/1 ba) and there were 9 of us there … it was super fun with no a/c and I learned a love for cooking & baking while time slowed down for that short span of my life.
