Melina Waldrop Troglen

Melina, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I was born and raised in South Mississippi by my grandparents, way out in the country. Although I came up in a religious household, I was surrounded by stories of the supernatural and a hidden sense of mysticism that mostly came from my great-grandmother. The house I was raised in was very old and very haunted, but not so much in a scary sense. We had a resident ghost named Oscar, and so early on. I got to test and practice having the abilities that I had….I just didn’t fully understand what was going on.

I just thought everybody could sense spirit. I always had abilities as a child, but I didn’t really know what to call them, so most of my life, I kind of hid them from the world. I’ve been studying the tarot and everything metaphysical since I was in high school, so that’s probably about 26 years now. as soon as I could drive at the age of 15, I went to the bookstore in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, and bought my first book on the tarot. I still have my first tarot deck, and I still use it sometimes. Six years ago, I decided to start doing readings professionally, and I started Blackcatmoon13. I offer tarot and Oracle card readings, mediumship readings, distance Reiki, and magical services.

Over the last few years, I got my certification in Hoodoo rootwork through Lucky Mojo curio company in California and was lucky enough to study with the great Cat Yronwood. I offer custom honey jars, fixed candles, magical consultations, and the like through Blackcatmoon13. The overall theme of BCM13 is about female empowerment, so most of the posts that I put on my pages are geared towards helping women. I feel like magic is a very empowering thing, and it is not just for females. Of course, I wanted it to be a business and a page that supported women being strong and overcoming adversity.

I connect with that so much as I lost my mother, my stepdad, and my sister at age 11, and I was raised by my grandparents. Since then, I’ve lost many other family members in my life. I’ve had to overcome a lot of obstacles to get where I am today, and so anything that can help other women know that they can get through hard stuff is important for me to get out there. I really enjoy helping people with their problems through tarot readings because they give me a sense of purpose, and in a way, I heal by helping others. I’ve always had a strong connection to the divine since I was a little child.

My mother wrote in my baby book, “Talks to God as if he’s actually there,” and I had my first prophetic dream when I was 10. I’ve had experiences since then, and now it is just part of my life. I’m primarily clairvoyant, but I’m also clairaudient, and I experience all of the other “clairs” as well. I’ve been able to connect to spirit since I was a little girl. Of course, as I said, it’s just it took me a long time to be able to really seek out the teachers that I needed to understand what was happening and how to interpret the messages, and so at one point I was in Utah and I was led to another Medium who basically taught me the language of spirit. Her name is Jeanette Smith, and she’s known as the Park City Medium.

I met a ton of others like me, and it felt liberating. Currently, I do limit my mediumship readings, and I do mostly psychic tarot readings; I take mediumship readings on a case-by-case basis because they do for me take a lot of concentration, and at this point in my life, I have a lot of other responsibilities, so it just depends but when I do conduct my psychic tarot oracle readings, I’m also using spirit along with the cards in conjunction with one another and my abilities to deliver the messages so I will get spirit messages in most readings and when I do I will deliver that.

I am also a licensed real estate agent with LPT Realty and a licensed aesthetician. I graduated from Aveda in Franklin, Tennessee, but currently, this is my full-time job, along with real estate. I’m a full-time reader Monday through Friday, from 9 to 5, and you can find my schedule through my website. I also have Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and TikTok.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Growing up in the Bible belt of Southern Mississippi, I got to really foster a connection to the divine, but once I ventured out of my hometown, I really discovered that there were all kinds of ways to the light basically. And so I’ve developed more of an inclusive view of spirituality. I wasn’t really able to talk about these things too much in the open, so my abilities and my interest in the metaphysical world were closeted for most of my life.

The only person who really would indulge in these things with me was my great-grandmother, who told me so many ghost stories about our house and about our family, and now I realize that she, too, had abilities to sense spirit and so did the other women in my family, but no one would talk about it because it was labeled as bad because of religion, now I’m lucky enough to found a spiritual community that matches my viewpoint on this, and I’m able to introduce my children to a more broad sense of spirituality, and hopefully if they discover that they have gifts, they will be able to nurture those early on, whereas I wasn’t really able to do that.

It’s also been very difficult to come out of the closet per se with what I do sometimes because some people are judgmental. Luckily, that doesn’t bother me as much as it used to, but there’s still a stigma attached to witchy people and what we do. I believe that tools are just tools, and it depends on how you use them and what your intentions are as to whether they are good or evil.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a psychic, intuitive, and medium. I conduct readings with tarot, Oracle, Lenormand, Kipper, playing cards, pendulum, etc., and I also work with spirit and conjunction with tools to deliver readings. I specialize in love and relationship, mainly because that’s what most people want to know about but I can read on anything, I also do magical consultations for people, I sell, honey jars, fixed candles, and I’m available for people to commission me to do magical services for them.

I’m also certified in Reiki and at this time I offer distance Reiki however right now my main focus is on doing personal readings Mediumship readings are limited at this time. Mostly I’m conducting psychic tarot or psychic Oracle readings, and if spirit comes through while I’m doing a reading, I will say so but strict mediumship readings are going to be for now on a case by case basis, because of the demands that I have in my life at this time.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
I feel like I’m very compassionate as a reader I have a lot of empathy because I’ve been through a ton of life experience for my age.

So, I’m able to really connect to people in a lot of ways because I understand what they’ve been through and what they’re going through. I also consider myself very tenacious, and I’ve had to persevere through a lot of things in my life, and that has made me very strong, resilient, and adaptable.
