Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Reed.
Hi Michael , so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
We are a very close family that has been incredibly blessed. Our story really began in 2008 when dear friends and angel investors loaned me the money to buy my first television station, a business I’d been in for 25 years working for others. The money was loaned with a mission, to “pay it forward”. That mission changed everything for us. Instead of being driven to succeed for riches, we were determined to honor the blessing we received by paying it forward to our employees, our clients, and the communities we served. With that as our mission, we turned that one TV station into 21 stations all funded with the profits made on the first station. We never had to borrow more money to grow our portfolio. In 2021, nearly 15 years later, we sold our company and retired to Nashville to be near our children. My daughter was working for WSMV here in Nashville, but her true passion was fitness. She loves pilates. In a conversation with her I asked her what she would like to do for a career and suggested that doing something you love means never having to work a single day in your life. She said she would love to own her own pilates studio. So she began researching pilates studio franchises. After an exhaustive search, lots of zoom calls, and nearly a year later, we found Jetset Modern Pilates. We were so impressed with the brand that we committed to open 6 studios in and around the greater Nashville area and invited my son to join us in the venture. The support system and experience of the Jetset team is unparalleled. We have made this a family business with shared ownership with my two children. A separately owned Jetset Modern Pilates is opening the first studio in our area this week in Midtown Nashville. We will be opening our Brentwood studio in the HG Hill Center by Del Frisco Grill and Jenni’s Ice Cream in May. The workout is a 50 minute class on a custom advanced reformer. We focus on precision, flow, and a personalized approach to full-body conditioning. Each session integrates our signature choreography and curated DJ playlists, creating a unique and immersive experience that balances strength, flexibility, and endurance. Our highly skilled instructors guide you through every movement, ensuring a balanced workout that adapts to your needs and keeps you motivated throughout the week.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Nothing worthwhile comes easy. We have had our share of struggles and challenges as do all businesses, but this journey has been incredibly smooth thus far. Things seem to keep falling in place. The team, the location for our studio, the decision for Jetset over other competitors, hiring the construction company have all just fallen in place beautifully.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I ruined my arm pitching for the Pittsburgh Pirates A league professional baseball team. A lady from my church told me they were hiring salespeople at the local ABC affiliate in Florence, SC. I applied for the job and got it. 7 years later I was the General Manager of the TV station. I got offers to move and run TV stations in Augusta, GA, Lafayette, LA, Austin TX, and then got the opportunity to start my own broadcast group in 2007. I am most proud of the way we conducted business. We treated all people as we would want to be treated with kindness, compassion and care. We worked really hard to help our clients achieve their objectives and we did it with integrity and honor.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I love the people of Nashville. Nashville is the best place we have ever lived. I love the city, the offerings of the city, but most of all I love the humble hearts of the people that live here. It’s the coolest thing to walk into a store here and see a prayer tree or see employees supporting a charity that means something to them. I think the state of TN has great leadership and have figured out the things that make it an attractive place for people to live and work.
