Daily Inspiration: Meet Michelle Von Geis

Today, we’d like to introduce you to Michelle Von Geis.

Michelle Von Geis

Thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
In 2015, my mom got me a canon rebel camera to take with me to my 6 month internship with Disney in Orlando, FL. I took a few photos with it and then didn’t touch my camera until 2o17!

From 2015-2017, I finished up my degree in hospitality from the University of Tennessee and continued working in various restaurants and events. One summer day in 2017, I texted my friend to see if she wanted to meet me at a park to take photos. Ever since that spontaneous sunset photoshoot, I have been obsessed with photography!

Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It was very difficult to get my photography business up and running. It took years for me to build up a client base and improve my photography skills.

There were many times when I wanted to give up, but I kept going because I genuinely loved taking photos. My love for photography kept me going, as did the support of my friends and family.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
My background in the hospitality industry prepared me well for serving my clients today.

The restaurant and event industry taught me to care for people, listen to people’s needs, and be VERY prepared. I love to build relationships with my clients, and I am so thankful that I get to capture all the special moments in their lives!

How do you define success?
Defining success is tough! But to me, being successful in photography means that I am capturing people’s emotions and relationships accurately. I want people to look back at a photo and remember the love and joy they felt in the moment it was taken.
