Today we’d like to introduce you to Miranda Adams.
Hi Miranda, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I had just graduated from MTSU in 2015 with my bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences and was actively interning at the Nashville Zoo. As we all know, interns do not make a whole lot of money, so I had to seek a job that would work with my busy schedule. I saw an AD on Indeed for a “Beertender” for a new brewery coming to Murfreesboro, TN. I honestly had never heard of a “Beertender” before and I thought the AD was kind of funny. So, I applied as a joke, but within a few days I had a call for an interview. When I arrived for the interview, I tripped in the door and knocked over the barstools. Then I quickly stood up and said “Umm, I am here for an interview?” This quickly got everyone’s attention and my 30 min interview turned into 3 hours, which turned into a part-time bartending job. Then a year later, I became a Lead Bartender. Then I moved up to Events Coordinator and Marketing. Then I became HR/Payroll/Accounting as well as Event Coordinating. To which I won the “Person of the Year” award in the 2023 Ruthies for Rutherford County. Not too long after that, the role of GM/Talent Buyer became open in the company, and they approached me first to offer me the job. I did not have the experience, but they believed in me and I have now been GM for almost 2 years. Running multiple festivals, concerts, and other activations and love it.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I would say that this has not been the smoothest road, lots of learning and adapting to knowledge I did not previously know. I was a Biology Major, with my only background in music being marching band experience. Also, being left with the mess of the last GM left before me and the struggle of bringing the venue back to what the community knew and loved. It weighed a lot on me but I am proud to see how far we have come. I would not be where I am without the support of my staff, the help of friends, the encouragement of my investors, and the community who loves and believes in us.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am the GM of an 86-acre Music/Event/Festival venue in Murfreesboro, TN called Hop Springs. We are mostly known for our large concerts and festivals, but we also have a full beverage production facility onsite that produces millions of cans of products for companies all over the United States. We even have 18-hole disc golf course onsite as well as a dog park! I have been with the company almost 9 years now and I have done almost every job that is offered here and learned so much along the way.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up I was definitely on the shy side, preferring to focus on my art and video games. But when I started playing music is when I started to open up and discover how much I enjoyed figuring things out. Whether it be figuring out a new percussion instrument, taking apart a vacuum, or learning to work on a car… I always wanted to keep learning.
