Daily Inspiration: Meet Misha Fair

Today we’d like to introduce you to Misha Fair.

Misha Fair

Thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?

I am an alternative country artist and singer-songwriter hailing from Atlanta, GA and the product of a musical family. As a result, I spent most of my early childhood development surrounded by professional musicians and music teachers. My dad is a bass player who played with many bands including the S.O.S. Band and the late Isaac Hayes. My maternal grandfather, Chuck Willis was an Atlantic Records artist and known for songs like “C.C. Rider” and “What Am I Living For”, which were later recorded by country legends Elvis, Conway Twitty and Ray Charles. So I always felt that I had huge shoes to fill. From their examples (among others), I learned musicality, the art of performance, and had a close look at the ups and downs of this industry.

I always had a big voice, even at 6 years old and from elementary to highschool I performed in world renowned groups. I was trained from a young age as a classical vocalist and found my passion in a mix of opera, jazz, country, and the gritty alternative sound of the mid-’90s. My favorite experiences were always marked by renditions of Dolly Parton, Patsy Cline, Hank Williams, LeAnn Rimes, and other country singers that I loved. In my teens, I often found myself a student in awe of singer-songwriters with strong, powerful voices like Linda Ronstadt, Tanya Tucker, and Alanis Morissette.

My professional career began moving after meeting with Janelle Monae and once I began working creatively with the artists, producers, and songwriters who were a part of her “Wondaland” collective. Since then, I have collaborated with the likes of Blanco Brown, Breland, Demun Jones, and Yelawolf to name a few. My dream is to join my country music contemporaries as a prolific singer-songwriter and leave a vivid and lasting impression on Nashville.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not always been a smooth road but the ride has always been more than worth it. Challenges like establishing myself as a country singer in a new town, wanting to always be creating inventive, well written records that resonate with people.

Another challenge has been the ever-evolving tools and technological changes required to promote any artist, let alone an emerging artist. Despite these challenges, it’s important to me that I continue to acknowledge the positive changes happening in the country music scene. As the industry has become more inclusive, more opportunities have opened up for diverse country artists like me to showcase our talent.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?

My musical style blends elements of rock, and blues with a twist of Appalachia– creating a pretty distinctive sound. I’m creating songs that showcase classic vocals, paying respect to the heart and tradition of country music while infusing a gritty, soulful twist.

A point of pride for me is my dedication to magnifying female perspectives in country music, putting our experiences front and center. I want potential fans to understand that realness, vulnerability, and good energy are constants in my records.

In the next quarter, I will be releasing an official music video VEVO for my single “BEG” as well as new music; and I couldn’t be more excited to share it.

What matters most to you?
As a country artist, I value authenticity and vulnerability in my songwriting. Being true to myself and sharing real genuine stories with my listeners that will resonate deeply is a top priority for me.

Producing high-quality recordings and honing excellent live performance skills and establishing my own distinct brand identity that sets me apart matter as well. Overall, I’m just striving to be the best I can be and making sure that I stay consistent and persistent.
