Today we’d like to introduce you to MvkeyyJ.
Hi MvkeyyJ, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Born in Encino and raised in Dallas, my journey into music started long before the studio sessions and publishing deals. After moving to Texas with my family, I became deeply involved in church culture as a teenager, spending countless hours at church camps, youth events, and services. Music quickly became more than just a hobby; it became a calling. In the 8th grade, I picked up the drums and instantly felt a connection that pushed me to take music seriously. That passion evolved into production, where I began experimenting with sounds, building records from scratch, and eventually developing my own artistic voice.
As my sound matured, so did my ambition. What started behind the drum kit turned into writing, producing, and recording original music that reflected my upbringing and personal growth. In 2024, I relocated to Nashville to fully pursue my career, immersing myself in the city’s creative culture and continuing to sharpen my craft. My hard work led to a major milestone in February 2025 when I signed a publishing deal with EMPIRE, marking the beginning of a new chapter. Since then, I’ve been steadily grinding in Nashville, focused on building a lasting career and carving out a sound that’s uniquely my own.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I’ve definitely experienced struggles. Almost every day, someone tells me that what I’m doing won’t work or that the route that I’m taking is ridiculous.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am an Artist, Songwriter, and Producer. I find joy in creating soundtracks for my listeners’ lives and curating sonic direction for fellow artists and musicians. The ability to navigate the music aspect of the industry as well as the business side makes me a valuable asset in many situations.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I love that Nashville feels like a cousin to Dallas. I love the southern hospitality and the idea that anyone can pursue their dreams here. On that note, I also sometimes feel like people here are fake or use others for their personal gain.
