Today we’d like to introduce you to Nei Marie.
Hi Nei, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started my modeling journey in college as many people know and I am where I am today because of my networking. Ive recently balanced modeling with my behavioral health career while going back to college at Walden University to receive my masters, and recently as far as having consistent stream of revenue, more opportunities, commercials, and even upcoming movie roles have presented themselves for me. These things are to come in the next few years, but it’s something I’m extremely excited about.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
As far as this year goes, it’s been a pretty smooth road. One of my struggles that I fear I may come across is navigating classes online again. I took a break from school for almost about 5 years and my fear is getting back into the mode of studying and staying focused while also working full time and having a modeling career. I pray every day and I know that it can be done. One of my other fears is that I don’t want to be so busy to the point to where I’m missing castings and opportunities with popular brands or artists. I also understand that certain sacrifices have to be made, but I’m ready for this journey.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Being multitalented it comes with so many titles. First and foremost, I am an educator first. I work in behavioral health where I help children with autism and who are also nonverbal and give strategies and therapy to help with their weaknesses and exercise their strengths. I am also a early childhood educator. Ive been in early childhood for over 10 years where I now carry that experience through my nanny business and also implement classroom education to your family’s home. I am also a hair stylist! Ive done hair my whole life and have literally mastered hair braiding. I can remember being in my adolescents and my friend’s moms would beg me to braid my friend’s hair for the summer and when school started back in August. As I became older, I realized my gift for hair braiding and started charging people after high school which was also a stream of revenue that helped me get through college. Outside of that I sell lingerie to women of all sizes! I picked this up by doing fashion shows and networking with clothing brands who encourage the idea because as they told me “The lane is wide open for you, people wear clothes every day.”
One of my greatest strengths for early childhood is helping infants to five-year-olds reach challenging milestones and educate/ prepare them so that they are prepared for kindergarten. Without getting into all of my jobs modeling has opened numerous doors for me and the brands, opportunities, and content keeps increasing as a stream of revenue. I’m most proud of my determination and accomplishing my goals. I had a moment where I went through most of my things from middle and high school and I noticed that I always set goals and completed them. In college I made a vision board where I talked about being in shows, podcasts, radios, fashion shows, commercial modeling and being published and everything that I ever set out to want has always came true. I’m heavily involved in my community and seen as a pillar for most of my peers and friends and family which is one of the main things that’s that sets me apart from others. It feels good to have an entire community of people supporting you and behind you.
What matters most to you?
What matters most to me is my reputation. I enjoy being a person who has there hands involved in many projects and many jobs. It keeps me busy and makes me feel as if the sky is the limit. Ive never been the type of person to stuck to just one thing. You only get one life so NEVER settle. There so much to learn and so many opportunities out there. Having my name spoke in rooms that I’m not in yet lets me know that I am doing something right!
