Today we’d like to introduce you to Olivia Atkinson.
Hi Olivia , can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started taking photos back when I was a kid and got a giant pink Barbie camera. After that, it was little disposable cameras or videos on my parents’ camcorder, and I finally got my first digital camera, and that was when I really fell in love with photography. I started shooting mostly for family and friends during high school, and since then it has grown into my business, where I get to photograph beautiful people and work with the sweetest clients!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
No road is really smooth, or if it is it’s not worth taking! I’m also a musician and actor, so finding the balance of performing and teaching with my business can be a challenge at times, but I always seem to find time to edit and work while in rehearsals or when I’m not teaching. It keeps me busy!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a wedding and lifestyle photographer, so I do a little bit of everything! Seniors, engagements, newborns, families, weddings, and branding photos! My style is classic, charming, and colorful. I love taking classy portraits you can put on your wall, but also fun documentary style pics you can post on your feed. I think a good mix of formal and casual make the best photos! I’m a people person, so I love getting to know my clients during the session, customizing their posing and style to make the photos more personalized. That way they get photos that really feel like a window into their life; a timestamp, if you will.
What matters most to you? Why?
I love seeing the way God weaves people together, and getting to document it is an honor.
In 2022, I got married to my wonderful husband, and I got a fresh perspective when I photograph couples and weddings. I get so excited for their new chapter and get to relive the excitement of the season all over again! Then in February 2025, we had our first baby, our beautiful daughter. The way my heart expanded 10 times makes me just love photographing families and babies even more! Because of that, I’ve never put myself in a pocket of only wedding photography or only seniors or families, because I truly love and connect with each season and love the variety!
Sure, we live in a day and age where you can take photos of anything, anytime, anywhere; that is amazing! But I believe that taking the time to make special photos to capture the season you’re in is priceless. Having albums and photos on your wall is something you won’t regret having, and the generations to come will be so happy you took the time to make them!
