Hi Rita, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
“Finding My Music: A Journey of Resilience and Renewal”

When people ask why I left California for Tennessee, they expect a straightforward answer. But my story is one of transformation.

It began on the 18th floor of my office building, where a routine phone call from my doctor changed everything. As I gazed out the window, a sign on the Symphony Tower caught my eye: “Find your music.” Those words became my mantra.

Diagnosed with invasive breast cancer, my world was turned upside down. Yet, in that moment, I felt an inexplicable connection to Nashville – Music City.

During my battle, I repeated a phrase to myself: “There’s a better life ahead.” And Nashville has delivered. Breast cancer took much from me, including my sense of identity, but this city helped me reclaim it.

I’ve emerged stronger, wiser, and more resilient. My experience has taught me to advocate for myself and others. I share my story to inspire hope and courage in those facing similar challenges.

Breast cancer presented unimaginable obstacles, but Nashville has given me a newfound sense of purpose.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
As a breast cancer survivor, I’ve discovered a lesser-known yet critical aspect of healing – the mental struggle that follows. After overcoming the physical fight, I found myself facing an unexpected, darker challenge. Simple tasks like looking in the mirror filled me with fear and insecurity. Healing demands time, self-reflection, and emotional understanding.

Initially, I forced myself to accept my new reality, repeating “I’m okay, I’m lucky” like a nightly mantra. But deep down, I knew it wasn’t true. It wasn’t until I acknowledged my struggles that I began to find solutions. My persistence in being strong had blinded me to warning signs.

Seeking medical help revealed that my post-mastectomy reconstruction was damaged, requiring two additional surgeries. Today, I proudly face my reflection, empowered by confronting my insecurities.

My message to fellow survivors and anyone facing adversity: confront your challenges head-on. Identify the root cause and pursue resolution. Prioritize your well-being; seeking a better quality of life is a sign of strength, not weakness.

“As a multifaceted individual, I excel in various pursuits. I’m an accomplished author with three books under my belt, awaiting the perfect moment to unveil my next literary creation. Beyond writing, I’m passionate about modeling and the thrill of Motorsports racing. I’m proud to be a returning competitor in the esteemed Miss USA Organization, with sights set on capturing a state title.

This year, I was thrilled to take part in Nashville Latin Fashion Week, a celebration of style and cultural diversity. The highlight of my experience was strutting down the runway in an exquisite gown crafted by local designer Youseff. His innovative design expertise shone brightly, making me proud to represent Nashville’s vibrant fashion scene.

Professionally, I thrive in Aviation Development, where I oversee projects from conception to completion, transforming vacant land into fully operational hangars. This dynamic career, paired with exciting modeling opportunities, allows me to strike a perfect balance between challenge and enjoyment. With a fulfilling life that seamlessly blends creativity, adventure, and achievement, I’m eager to see what the future holds.”
