Today we’d like to introduce you to Ryan Barnes
Hi Ryan, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am originally from San Diego and met some friends who were into videography there, and I was attracted to creating videos through them, then I Started a youtube channel just for fun, then transitioned into working for The Black Sheep Michigan State University where I wen to college creating videos there for social media. I graduated during Covid and just took a desk job, I hated it got fired from my first desk job, then took another job I enjoyed it more than my first job but wasnt fulfilling so I started to create UGC Videos for extra money until about a year ago where I decided I could do this full time and have been ever since.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I was working 5-9 creating/editing videos then going to my 9-5 to work, then would come back and work some more on videos, I was doing this 5 days a week, and working weekends just to make this happen. When I went full time I was losing money the first few months until I really figured out how to scale creating Social Media content.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
What I have learned is you cant be emotionally attached to creative work you give to your client, what you love, they may not love, and hearing feedback to something YOU are emotionally attached to will be discouraging, just important to realize our visions are unique and may not align with what everyone else wants to see. I specialize in creating Social Media ads that convert sales. What sets me apart is my authenticity on camera I dont take on gigs that I cant see myself doing
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
I can see UGC being around for a long time, given how well it works, but I can see how the format of videos will evolve, people dont like seeing ads, so how can you make a UGC video more engaging and entertaining while also keeping it informative!
