Today we’d like to introduce you to Sabrina Ponte.
Sabrina started singing in her church choir when she was five and by the time she was ten had already starred in musicals and joined the Young Opera Company of New England. Growing up as a singer and dancer, Sabrina identifies as a well-rounded performer. Starting at the age of 16 she did the New England Conservatory of Music’s Pre College Program earning a diploma in Classical Vocal Performance. She was later accepted to Berklee College of Music where she received her degree in Music Business with a Concentration in Management and Voice. Making a name for herself through the Miss America Organization by winning the prestigious title of Miss Boston at 19 years old, Sabrina went on to win multiple competitions in following years and placed first runner up at Miss Tennessee this year. She performed “O Mio Babbino Caro” at the pageant being a double preliminary winner and recipient of the overall best talent award. A testament to her drive, while still only 19, she was the first hire at Boston’s iHeart Media who wasn’t previously an intern on their promotions team as well as one of the Boston Bruins and New England Sports and Entertainments youngest employees. That following year she sang Whitney Houston’s “I Have Nothing,” winning the New England Talent Search. Sabrina went on to move to Nashville completing two internships, joining Nashville’s iHeart team, and signing with her current modeling agency, Block. Continuing to pursue music she has since then released two singles which can be found anywhere digital music is sold, “U-Turn” and her rendition of the classic “Last Christmas.” Currently, she is working on her upcoming singles and is very excited to be able to share details on that soon! Coming up this fall she will be performing in Jacksonville, Florida outside the Jaguars stadium before their game vs. the Tennessee Titans. You can follow her journey @sabrinaponteofficial
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Oh no! I was in a car accident before attending Berklee College of Music that made my experience very different than expected. I suffered many injuries in the accident including ones to the head, neck and jaw which made performing, my favorite thing, painful for me. I was told I might not be able to make singing my career because of the issues I was facing which was very hard to hear, but I continued to have faith and have so much gratitude that I am able to be performing now. Never lose faith!
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Coming from different types of music, my personal music can be appealing to those outside of its categorized genre allowing me to have a wide variety of listeners. I believe good music is good music and that’s what I strive to create, I do not try to make my music fit a mold. I believe if you chase after whatever today’s popular sound is then you will always be behind since it is always changing, so it is best to just make music true to you. My upcoming singles speak to this and I am looking forward to people being able to truly connect with it.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
I see more of a focus on music and would love to be signed within the next five years. I have a catalog of work I have been waiting to put out, so I see some releases in the near future. Modeling and acting are something I love as well which I hope to dive deeper into, I find modeling to be just still shots of telling a story.
