Today we’d like to introduce you to Savanna Hill.
Hi Savanna, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Thank you! So I first began my coaching career in 2015 and became a certified strength coach (NASM, ACE), later a mobility specialist (FRCms) after experiencing injuries of my own and watching my mother go through the pain of breaking and replacing her hip at a young age. Over the years, I explored many modalities of fitness and came to particularly love kettlebell and unconventional training. My approach to coaching is rooted in helping people build lasting strength, connection and movement confidence through intentional and dynamic movement. Movement should be FUN, and I do my best to help others frame a lifestyle around that, without sacrificing the meaning of doing hard things.
I come from a musical background, which shaped how I understand rhythm, flow and the body’s natural patterns. That foundation deeply influences how I coach movement and see human anatomy- it’s all about awareness, timing and expression. But in 2022 I was let go unexpectedly from a job I had poured 5 years of myself and my passion into, then in 2023, after the devastating loss of my brother to suicide and the sudden end of a long-term relationship subsequently, everything shifted. I knew I had to find a way to move through my grief with purpose. I was only 30 years old, still smack dab in the middle of my life- it was either give up or keep moving, so I had to learn how, as a completely new person I was still learning to be. Just before the first anniversary of my brother’s death, I took an impromptu trip to Tanzania to check off one of his bucket list items- climbing Kilimanjaro. The experience was more healing than anticipated, and I didn’t realize the clarity it would bring me to take my next step when I returned home.
In June 2024, the month of my brother’s passing, I started a free weekly kettlebell flow class, more as a lifeline than a business move. I realized how much being in a good community and empowering environment meant to my well-being, as a coach and as a human. It became a healing space, not just for me but for the growing group who kept showing up. That class reminded me why I left music in the first place: to help people feel powerful in their bodies and minds, and supported by community. I’m now building Nashville Kettlebell alongside my business partner and dear friend, Karol Hale- a collective dedicated to inclusive, community-driven movement experiences that bring people together in strength, joy and real connection. Over the next year, we’re focused on expanding our reach across the city, partnering with gyms, outdoor spaces, and fellow coaches to create more opportunities for people to move, heal and grow together.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Haha is life in general ever a smooth road? Jokes aside, I can certainly say that showing up as a queer female coach, especially in a fast growing city around me, has its trials and tribulations. I try to lead with an adaptable and inclusive mindset with that, as I don’t believe the world owes me anything. But I’ve definitely run into obstacles with collaboration and working under self-serving individuals or corporations, rejection after rejection after rejection weighing on self-worth, things like that. Not to mention trying to build something not quite being done yet in this city, and being outside the box can feel isolating and lonely sometimes. But it’s all worth it once you’re through to the next thing and holding fast to your vision- you just discover more you’re capable of and grow thicker skin, learn to work smarter, etc.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a functional strength coach and mobility specialist with a passion for kettlebell training and the inclusive range of benefits it offers- strength, control, creativity and connection. While kettlebells are my primary tool, I’m well-versed in a wide variety of training methods and modalities thanks to my curiosity for movement, a dynamic and experienced background over the past several years, and a desire to constantly explore new neural pathways and possibilities of the human body.
I’m not exactly sure what I’m most known for, but I do my best to create space, share knowledge and foster connection through movement in the fitness community. I like to be as involved as possible in the local community, support fellow leaders and my community outside of myself, and lead with generosity and genuine care in a world/field where it’s so easy to build an entire life and/or career with a mask on.
I show up in this space as a queer coach who brings my full self to the work, unapologetically and sometimes to a fault. I value authenticity, adaptability and connection, and I’m proud of my ability to build rapport with just about anyone. Whether new to strength training or seasoned in their practice, I believe every human deserves the chance to discover their potential and move well, live more freely. And because my brother donating his organs to science became one of the most impactful pieces of his death for me, I try to encourage people to fight for believing more than we give ourselves credit for, and that there’s a whole life out there waiting to be lived. We are all worthy of life worth living.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
This is a tough one…so many important lessons learned and many I’m still learning/will learn.
The biggest lesson learned is that you can’t rely on anyone other than yourself to make you happy and to understand you fully. Even when you’re at rock bottom, you can still take a step vs. fold under the pressure. The more steps you take when things are NOT going well is how we prove to ourselves that we are resilient and worthy of a life well-lived.
