Today we’d like to introduce you to Sean Korb.
Hi Sean, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Korbco Consulting Group, LLC started from a need from friends and family of mine needing business advice, Web Sites, Social Media help, and just any type of business-related graphics. I was a business owner at a young age and owned my own consumer electronics business for over 20 years. Later in life and after 20+ years in sales I grew tired of it.
So, I followed a lifelong dream that I had from when I was a teenager to go to college for Art. I enrolled in Full Sail University in Orlando, FL and started a new career path. After high school, I was not able to go to college due to the lack of funds and any way to find any grants for college so I landed in a sales job selling consumer electronics business to business. Little did I know at the time that this would shape the man I would become and the entrepreneur mindset I would develop. I learned sales, management, dealing with clients, dealing with employees, and everything in-between and eventually opened my own business doing just that in my early 20’s. This was also at the very early stages of E-Commerce sales so I also alongside of training sales crews and managing management staff, I created my first company website. It turned into an e-commerce site that allowed me to sell all over the world. I eventually built the online website to do more sales in a day then my entire sales force of 15-20 salesman could do in a week. It was a no brainer to eventually stop hiring sales staff and turn the business to a complete online website where customers could purchase anything from phones, and cameras, to stun guns and DVD players. But as the internet grew, so did the competition.
Eventually, everybody and their brother was selling electronics online and it became a hard market to try to compete in. So that’s also why I decided to pursue college and start looking into other ventures. I thought I wanted to go into the video game industry as I have always been into video games and electronics and was an artist from a young age. So, I started my Full Sail Adventure. I quickly realized video game studios is a young man’s job with crazy hours and constant moving around the United States chasing job after job, then I learned that Military simulation might be a way to go. I graduated at the top of my class valedictorian and my very last day of school, my wife and I found out we were pregnant with our son. Life can sometimes throw you curveballs and even though we were trying for our first child, we just didn’t expect it so soon. Being older parents and my wife having a 16-year career as a VP at a well-known makeup company, we decided that I would be the stay-at-home parent for the first few years. No point in her giving up her long career and me starting a new. So that’s what we did. While going to Full Sail, I made lots of connections and friends and lots of those people always seemed to need help with a website or a logo or business card design, and usually I would do it for free while changing diapers. Once my son turned three and we started him in Pre-school, I now had a bit more free time than I did during his infant ages.
As usual, I still had friends and family always asking for business advice or wanting me to help them with a website so I decided to go ahead and start a business doing just that. Korbco Consulting Group, LLC was born. My wife retired after her 20 years ended and now does consulting work for Korbco Consulting Group, LLC and in the beauty industry. We also started her a small Pottery business from her hobby as a Potter. Korbware Pottery was also born. From the start of Korbco Consulting Group, LLC I have focused on Webs-design, Social Media Management, and any type of Graphic Design for Small to medium businesses. I love helping others succeed and what better way to help a small business than get them on to the online marketplace. I love using my creative artistic side to help a client’s vision become a reality. Of course, seeing their business grow as a direct result of my social media savoy also is very rewarding. Korbco’s business motto is “Your Business is OUR Business” and we take that to heart, when we take on a new client their business feels like it is our business and we put as much effort into it to make sure they succeed as we do our businesses.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Korbco Consulting Group, LLC has been a smooth ride so far. Of course, there is always challenges when owning a new business, but thankfully with my experience and expertise I learned, I know how to navigate those challenges. Every now and then, you get a client who has a vision in their head that might not meet the standards I try to uphold, but it is their vision. Of course, I try to coach them on what the latest and greatest looks and trends might be for a website or a logo design, but ultimately Korbo is about making sure the client is happy first.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
As far back as I can remember, I have always had a creative and artistic mind. Constantly, as a child, I was busy filling sketchbooks and creating something. I was one of the rare children who when an adult would ask them what they wanted to be when they grew up, I always answered with the same thing, instead of having a different answer each time. I always answered “An Artist”. When I got a bit older, I thought I wanted to go into graphic arts. I took every art class I could all the way through high school and they actually ran out of classes by the time I was a senior, so they let me retake an art class and made me the teacher’s assistant helping the underclass-men. When I graduated from high school, I just assumed I was going to an art school but in the early 90’s I quickly learned about money and the lack of it in the real world. My mother was a single parent and she did her best to keep a roof over my head and food on the table but saving up for her son’s college fund was not an option for her. Also, back in the early 90’s there was no internet so the only way to search for grants was the library, and I did receive one, but it was for only $500 and that wasn’t even going to pay for the supplies I would need for the first semester. My college dreams were over… for the time being. But I never forgot that dream which is why 20+ years later, I fulfilled that dream and graduated from Full Sail University with an art degree.
