Daily Inspiration: Meet Shakira Brooks

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shakira Brooks.

Hi Shakira, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’ve struggled with not knowing what my “purpose” is for a great length of my life. Although I graduated high school at the top of my class with a 4.7 GPA, I got to college and felt like an idiot. I failed everything. I didn’t return to school after freshmen year. I felt horrible for getting kicked out because all of my friends were still in college and here I was back at home working two jobs. I never thought I’d find my way, but God still had a plan for me!

I worked one, two, and at one point, three jobs. I wasn’t doing anything else, so I made sure I always had money in my pockets. After working for so many companies, I realized that I couldn’t see myself working for anyone else long-term. I left my career in customer service when I realized that they’d never be what I needed, so I removed myself from a stressful environment. My life was never the same after that day. I found true freedom and peace.

About a month after leaving my job, I randomly told my husband that we NEEDED to stop playing and start a business soon. He was confused after asking me what business I wanted to start so bad and I told him I didn’t know, but we needed to start one. I felt something in my soul telling me that it was time for action.

At the time, I was on my weight loss journey and I wanted to make myself some waist beads. After making three pairs with my family, we decided to sell them the next day. They IMMEDIATELY were a hit, probably because I was only selling them for $5!

After being worn out from making hundreds of strings of waist beads, I decided that I didn’t want to do that anymore. I re-branded from “Bae’s Goddess Beads” to “Goddess Bae,” where I transitioned to a feminine hygiene brand.

My first two products were the Goddess Yoni Oil and the Goddess Yoni Steam. I continued to push those products, tell my story, post content consistently, and always striving to improve in some way. God’s strength and guidance, my hard work, my husband’s support, Bae Gang, and my relentless dedication is what helped me reach the point that I’m at today.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
NOTHING about this journey has been easy. From the very first day, I’ve worked relentlessly to make this brand a success. I’ve struggled in every department as I learn the ropes of entrepreneurship. Transitioning from being an employee to the boss AND the employee wasn’t easy. I love the freedom of being my own boss, but being the one making all the tough decisions is hard sometimes.

One of my first struggles once I transitioned from waist beads to feminine products was building trust with my supporters. Naturally, women aren’t too fond of using ANY products in their most precious area, so it took a lot of transparency and sharing my story to make women comfortable. A lot of women have a “if it’s not broke, don’t fix it” mentality when it comes to feminine products. In the beginning, I was very frustrated about this. Then, I realized that I needed to find my target audience in order to start converting sales. I was preaching to women who didn’t care about using natural products when I should’ve been speaking to women who already knows the value in them. Instead of using products that dry your skin out, cause infections and imbalances, have harmful chemicals, fragrances, and dyes inside, they prefer products like mine!

It took me over a year of engaging with women, adding new women to my social media accounts, making content, doing pop-up shops, and expanding my brand across the world to reach this point. I still have so much learning, growth, and success to come!!

Another struggle was in January of 2022. I went from having maybe 30 orders a month to having three viral videos in one day. I was struck with my first symptoms of Covid that day and it went downhill from there. I was sick, caregiving for my sick husband, taking care of the household, AND working hard to ship out my orders. I’ve never been through anytime more tough than this time period. This was the first time in business that I wanted to give up. I felt so defeated knowing that I had received almost 500 orders in ONE DAY. I didn’t give up though. I did everything that I could to push through those orders and I did. I became a new woman after shipping out my last order from going viral.

I graduated to a new level of SUPERWOMAN.

I made it through one of the toughest times ever! Going viral taught me a lot and it leveled my business up in many ways. I’m extremely grateful for this experience!

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I handcraft my own line of feminine hygiene products, which consists of feminine wash, wipes, body oils, etc. We specialize in yoni products that reduce odors, infections, imbalances, menstrual cramps, heavy bleeding, and dryness.

In a world full of copycats, I’m proud of the fact that I’ve created my own formulas for each of my handcrafted products, and they do exactly what they’re made to do. I take pride in the fact that my products produce real results. I call them “magic in a bottle.”

What separates Goddess Bae from other feminine companies is my passion. I’m not just creating products to make a profit. I suffered from Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, which caused my periods to be irregular and PAINFUL. I experienced recurring bacterial infections and yeast infections for four years straight. My doctor continued to prescribe me medication that didn’t work, so I took matters into my own hands.

The products that I provide are all an extension of things that I created to help alleviate my symptoms. I use every single product on my line. Once I realized that I changed my life with these products, I decided to share my magic with the world. I’m still amazed that I regulated my period, treated and cured my recurring infections, and I reduced my cramps from a 10 to a 2, with NATURAL ingredients!

I’m happy that my products assist with breaking through the barrier and discomfort about “feminine hygiene.” There is nothing wrong with using products that keep you feeling good and odor free!

I LOVE THE FOOD. Food is the key to my heart.

I wish the city was larger and had more entertainment to offer.
