Today we’d like to introduce you to Tamika Marshall.
Hi Tamika , we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Tamika Marshall, and I am a 9½-year uterine cancer survivor. My journey through cancer began September 2015 and it changed my life, From that pain, I found my purpose. I founded Lady T Hope Brigade in 2016 to be a light for others facing what I once faced — fear, uncertainty, and loneliness. I wanted to turn my experience into action by creating a support system that reminds people they don’t have to fight alone. Through monthly dinners, bingo nights, care packages, supplies and heartfelt connections, we lead with compassion, hope, and a heart to serve.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Running Lady T Hope Brigade is a labor of love, but it hasn’t come without challenges. As a small, 501c3 nonprofit, we operate with limited funding and often rely on out-of-pocket support and donations from kind-hearted individuals. Consistent financial support is one of our biggest hurdles — especially when trying to meet the growing needs of cancer patients who request care packages or attend our monthly Hope Lodge dinners and bingo nights.
Another challenge is capacity. With a small leadership team and no full-time staff, we often juggle multiple roles to keep things running. Balancing passion with sustainability can be difficult, especially when there’s so much more we want to do for the community.
Despite these obstacles, our commitment never wavers. Every smile, every thank you, and every moment of connection keeps us going — because we know the impact we’re making is real and needed.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Lady T Hope Brigade is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit based in Nashville, Tennessee, dedicated to uplifting and supporting individuals battling cancer. Our mission is to ensure no one fights alone by providing compassionate care, encouragement, and tangible support during one of life’s toughest battles.
Since our founding, we’ve partnered with the American Cancer Society’s Hope Lodge to serve monthly dinners and host uplifting bingo nights where guests can enjoy a meal, win prizes, and feel seen and celebrated.
In 2025, we expanded our outreach by launching Lady T Hope Brigade Cancer Care Packages — thoughtfully curated boxes filled with comfort items, personal care supplies, and messages of hope. These care packages are sent directly to cancer warriors upon request, reminding them that they are not alone and that a community is standing strong beside them.
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
The most important lesson I’ve learned on this journey is that purpose can be born from pain. My own battle with cancer showed me how powerful love, community, and support can be in someone’s darkest moments. It taught me that even when you feel like you have nothing left to give, showing up with compassion can change someone’s life — and your own. I’ve learned that impact doesn’t require perfection or a big budget — just a willing heart and the courage to keep going, even when it’s hard.
