Daily Inspiration: Meet Tequila Rose

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tequila Rose.

Hi Tequila, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
3. My story. My love for cooking began in childhood, influenced by my grandmother, Nell Marie Wilson, renowned for her exceptional culinary skills. As a child, I marveled at the number of people who came to her house for her delicious dishes. The joy on her face, when they praised her food, ignited my desire to emulate her. I spent countless hours in the kitchen with her, captivated by the excitement her cooking brought to others.

Though my grandmother’s passing when I was 21 years old dimmed my dream of cooking for the world, my passion never waned. I continued to cook for my children and friends, keeping the flame alive. In 2018, a significant moment came when someone tasted my food and said, “You know, you could sell this food!” Motivated by his words, I found a space and began to promote my plate sales through social media and word of mouth.

The response was overwhelming, with people eagerly showing up to buy a plate. I held plate sales twice a month in Nashville, and my customers encouraged me to consider catering. Fueled by this support, I researched how to become a legally authorized caterer. With determination, I spread the word that I was now a caterer, and my business flourished, allowing me to embrace catering full-time soon.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I have faced many obstacles, but I have always persevered. When I started catering in 2018, I was determined to make a name for myself in Nashville, then expand throughout the state of Tennessee, and ultimately become a known household name around the world. At first, I sold plates of food alongside my three children, and we worked tirelessly, selling hundreds of plates. Although the long hours left me exhausted, I was confident that my hard work would eventually pay off. I refused to give up, believing that if I kept pushing forward, God would provide the support I needed. Fast forward to 2025, and I am proud to say that I have built a dedicated team of 25 people, whom I rotate to help execute every event with excellence.

(I have a lot to say about my journey and how I made to where I am now, I didn’t know how much you wanted me to elaborate.)

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
As a caterer, I’ve learned that the essence of our profession is the art of juggling. To do it well , I have to be able to stay a step ahead, to know what’s going on even before it does. That is why meticulous planning and organization, adaptability to changing situations, prioritizing customer service, effective communication, managing food safety, cost control, the importance of quality ingredients, efficient team management, and the ability to handle unexpected challenges with grace; essentially, mastering the balance of creating a delicious, seamless event while navigating diverse client needs and potential logistical complications.

As I grow as a caterer, businesswoman, leader, and chef, I will continue to focus on making a difference and serving others, and success will follow. Each event cultivates new ideas to take my business to the next level. I know that if I continue to pray and do the work, God will unfold all of the promises he gave me for taking the leap to continue my grandmother’s legacy.
