Today we’d like to introduce you to Tori Mortimer.
Hi Tori, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve always been drawn to people and the stories they carry. Even before photography, I found myself people-watching, curious about the connections, emotions, and moments that make each person’s story unique.
I picked up a camera for the first time in 2021, thinking it would simply be a hobby, but I quickly fell in love with the art of storytelling through photography. I was especially drawn to cinematic, documentary style imagery that captures people and their relationships as they truly are…authentic, emotional, and deeply personal.
My journey hasn’t been completely linear. My husband and I chose to start a family really young, so there were seasons where photography had to take a back seat. But those experiences have only deepened my appreciation for the fleeting moments and genuine connections I now document for others.
Today, I’m fully stepping into this passion and building it into a business with intention. I’m incredibly excited for this next chapter and for the opportunity to continue telling meaningful stories through my work.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Like many creative journeys, mine has come with its share of obstacles and setbacks. While building my photography business, I also became a mother. I went through two pregnancies during the early years of my career, and my second pregnancy was particularly difficult. At the same time, I was navigating several personal hardships, and eventually I made the decision to step away from photography for a season to focus on my family and my mental health.
One of the biggest challenges I faced wasn’t external, it was the constant battle with self doubt. Imposter syndrome followed me throughout the beginning of my career. I spent so much time comparing myself to photographers who were further along in their journeys that I began questioning whether my work was good enough at all. That comparison stole a lot of my confidence and, for a while, kept me from fully stepping into my potential.
Despite those struggles, I never stopped loving photography. Even during the seasons when I wasn’t actively shooting, I continued learning, refining my craft, and developing my artistic voice. Over time, I realized that comparison was only distracting me from the unique perspective I bring as a storyteller. The experiences that once felt like setbacks have actually shaped the way I photograph today, giving me a deeper appreciation for authentic connection, resilience, and the fleeting moments that make up our lives.
Looking back, those challenges taught me perseverance, patience, and grace for myself. They also gave me the confidence to build a business that feels authentic to who I am, rather than who I thought I needed to be.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a cinematic documentary photographer specializing in couples, families, and weddings. My passion is capturing people as they truly are…the genuine emotions, connections, and in-between moments that often become the most meaningful memories. Rather than focusing on perfectly posed images, I strive to create photographs that feel honest, timeless, and deeply personal.
I am known for creating imagery that feels both cinematic and authentic. My clients often tell me that their galleries feel like scenes from a film while still looking and feeling completely like them. I want people to look back at their photos years from now and not just remember what they looked like, but remember exactly how that season of life felt.
What I am most proud of isn’t necessarily a specific photograph or achievement, t’s the trust my clients place in me. Being invited into some of the most important moments of people’s lives is something I never take for granted. Knowing that my work becomes part of a family’s legacy and is passed down through generations is incredibly meaningful to me!
What sets me apart is that my business is about so much more than photography. My business is also my ministry. I believe that every person I photograph is created intentionally by God, and I approach my work from a place of service rather than sales. I create for the Creator, and that perspective shapes everything I do.
I strive to give every client an experience that goes beyond simply receiving beautiful photos. From the first inquiry to gallery delivery, my goal is to make people feel seen, valued, comfortable, and cared for. I want my clients to feel like they’re spending time with a friend rather than hiring a vendor. Whether that’s helping them plan their session, calming nerves in front of the camera, celebrating milestones with them, or simply creating a safe space where they can be themselves, I want the experience to leave them feeling encouraged and appreciated. At the end of the day, beautiful photographs matter, but the people in front of my camera matter even more. My hope is that every person I work with walks away not only with meaningful images, but with the feeling that they were genuinely cared for throughout the process.
What’s next?
My plans for the future are centered around two things that mean the most to me: my family and my photography.
My husband and I have always dreamed of having a big family, and one of my greatest goals is to continue being a present mother while growing a business that I love. Motherhood has shaped so much of who I am, and rather than seeing it as something separate from my career, I see it as one of the things that has made me a better storyteller, business owner, and photographer.
As my business continues to grow, I hope to expand my reach while staying true to the heart behind my work. I want to continue documenting authentic stories, building meaningful relationships with my clients, and creating an experience that leaves people feeling seen and valued.
Long term, my dream is to combine my love of photography with my love of adventure and travel. I would love to photograph weddings, couples, and families all over the world, documenting stories in beautiful places and experiencing different cultures along the way. The idea that a camera could take me across the globe while allowing me to preserve some of life’s most meaningful moments is something that excites and inspires me every day.
More than anything, I hope to build a life where I can be fully present for my family while also pursuing the passion that God has placed on my heart. If I can continue serving others, telling meaningful stories, and creating work that points back to the Creator, I will consider that a success.
