Daily Inspiration: Meet Tori Shilney

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tori Shilney

Hi Tori, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
While staying at home with my two children, I was desperate for both a creative outlet and to reclaim my identity. With a background working for celebrity stylists and luxury fashion houses, posting fashion content came naturally and started to take off this time last year. Now, I’m expecting my third, and looking forward to sharing the journey with my new found community.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Any one in the social media space will tell you what a monster imposter syndrome can be. It can cause complete posting paralysis. There’s also the element of the dopamine roller coaster that can be hard to get a grip on – it can really suck you in and make you forget what’s real and actually important.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I have a really great eye when it comes to style. I can combine pieces that, in theory, really shouldn’t work together, but through balance, proportion, texture, friction, and/or juxtaposition, it just… does. I’m proud of my ability to connect with my audience- I’m constantly being told that my reels feel like they’re FaceTime with their bff while she’s getting ready for the day.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
Social media is mostly strategy, with a pinch of luck. It’s a numbers game, and you really have to understand the algorithm for your content to gain any traction, but if you’re lucky, the algorithm will recognize it amongst the thousands of other creators trying to do what you do, and give you the exposure necessary to grow and be successful.
