Daily Inspiration: Meet Tosin Adegbite

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tosin Adegbite.

Hi Tosin, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I come from a small town called “Ifon” in Ondo State Nigeria. A land rich in culture and tradition.

We lived in Lagos Island for some time and around the age of 5, I recall that my family moved to the big city of Ibadan in Oyo state, where the majority of my young life was developed.

From elementary school to middle, then secondary (high) school. I recall this time with nostalgic memories.
Most of childhood feels like a fond dream because I never thought of how much life would transition… no one ever does at that stage.

My father worked hard and moved our family to the US in the year 1999 after winning the US visa lottery. On December 21, 1999, I stepped foot on the American soil in New York City.

It was at the height of winter and we were ill prepared. Although my siblings and I were suited up in our jackets, we didn’t expect winter to be so cold! Yet beautiful…

This was my transition from familiarity to a vast world filled with wonders and possibilities.

My musical journey began with my transition. I needed a way to express myself so I wrote poems and rhythms. Poured over romantic books and mysteries. I was undefined but gradually knew what my creative purpose was.

My faith in God influences the music I create. My passion is to create music that encourages anyone who is discouraged, feeling disconnected, lost and searching for meaning and I have been able to do so and still find so much joy in the process.

The sound of my music is unique and meant to touch hearts and transform lives.
My heart desire is to do just that every day that I live.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The creative journey has its unique set of challenges and opportunities. I have enjoyed the process of discovery. Met some great people, artists, producers, and writers along the journey. I’ve encountered testimonials of people who were touched by my songs and I am humbled to soak in all the experiences along the way.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
My songs are Christ centered, and have influences ranging from my childhood in Africa to my American country upbringing.

I would uniquely describe my Christian songs as Afro-Classical if ever there is such a genre.

Although my sound remains largely undefined because I create based on my inclinations during that season; my goal is always to bring encouraging, uplifting and empowering songs to all people.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
I believe the quality that I feel is most important in all of life is Love.

Love is what keeps me consistent, focused, driven. Other attributes can be derived from the source of love.

Love for the people I’m sent to sing to, love for the music, love for my family and most importantly, love for God.

God indeed is love and nothing can be successfully done without love, without God.
