Daily Inspiration: Meet Trevor Boulden

Today we’d like to introduce you to Trevor Boulden.

Hi Trevor, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My family and more specifically my Dad inspired me to get into music. Growing up, my Dad was always playing country music in his truck and that is when I learned to love the genre. We would listen to George Strait’s 50 numbers 1s on repeat. However, I have not had the typical path of becoming a singer/songwriter. When I was in middle school I played the drum set but stopped when I got to high school.

Then my junior year of high school I received my 5th concussion from playing lacrosse. It was a really bad injury and my doctor told me I could not play contact sports anymore after that. During my recovery, I was not allowed to watch TV but she said I could play instruments. It was during this time I taught myself to play guitar. I always thought I had a good voice but I did not sing in front of a crowd of people until my Junior year of College.

The show was called the Celebration of Lights at Southern Methodist University and I sang in front of my whole school (about 7,000 people). I was extremely nervous but the show went great. They invited me back during my Senior year of college and that’s when I decided I wanted to pursue a music career.

I moved to Nashville after I graduated in August 2019. I financed Finance was my major and I had has a day job until this past May when I quit to become being a full-time musician. I was lucky to have really good mentors along the way and other great artists to write songs with.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Like all careers, the path to becoming a full-time singer/songwriter has not been a smooth road. When I moved to Nashville after college I only had written two songs and had only played to live shows. My biggest hurdle at the beginning was getting over my stage fright and gaining confidence in my singing abilities/songwriting. During the first six months of living in Nashville, I would go out to writer’s rounds and shows at least three days a week to network and try to get invited to play shows. Eventually, I started playing more and more shows and from those shows kept meeting new songwriters to write with.

My next hurdle after starting to play shows was figuring out what I wanted my artistry and songwriting style to be.

Once I started honing in on a unique sound I then had to find a way to get my music produced. I was blessed one day to have my current producer Dean Miller reach out to me. Dean is the son of the Country Music Hall of Fame artist Roger Miller and has produced 7 songs for me to date and the most recent EP that I will be releasing next year. I also had the honor to play on the PNC Bank Stage at the Ryman Auditorium this past May.

I’ve learned that Nashville rewards people for cutting their own path and I continue to strive to make my own path every day I wake up.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a country artist and singer-songwriter and I went full-time this past May after having the honor of playing on the PNC Bank Stage at the Ryman Auditorium. I have released two songs to date my first being a song called “Dance With Me”, which has garnered over 75k streams on Spotify, and my most recent single the “Island Song” which has over 45k streams. I am extremely proud of my first two songs but extremely excited about the new music I have been working on. I plan on releasing my first EP at the beginning of 2023. I recently began working with BSquared Management this summer and will be embarking on my first solo tour this fall in October and November.

What sets my music apart from other artists is my songwriting abilities and style. I write all of the songs I sing and release which allows listeners to believe what I’m singing and feel the pain or joy I was feeling in the experience I am writing about. I identify as a pop country artist but draw on a lot of different musical influences. I enjoy coming up with unique storylines and melodies that people have not heard before.

Any big plans?
I recorded four songs for my first EP at the end of May which I will be releasing at the beginning of 2023. I also have been writing 3-5 songs a week in preparation for my first full-length album that I would like to release at the end of 2023. In addition to my tour this fall, I will be touring next spring too.
