Today we’d like to introduce you to XOË MILES.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Hi! I’m Xoë Miles, and I’m a pop singer-songwriter. I’m originally from Montgomery, Texas, but now live in Nashville, Tennessee. I started playing guitar, writing songs, and recording in studios when I was 12 years old, and have since then been lucky travel all over the country to perform and work with some of the most talented people in the music industry. I have a debut 14 song album called “Who I Was Before” that is dropping on May 15th (might already be out when you’re reading this), and I’m so excited for the world to hear it!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I definitely wouldn’t say it’s been a smooth road. Being independent means you end up wearing like fifteen different hats at once. I’m not just making music, I’m also handling content, visuals, promo, emails, planning releases, all of it. It can get overwhelming really fast, and that in itself is a challenge, but it’s so worth it. Also, writing music is kind of weird because sometimes you have to revisit feelings you thought you were over just to finish a song. There were definitely moments during this album where I was like ‘wow, I actually cannot believe I’m exposing myself like this publicly.’ But I think that honesty is what makes people connect to music in the first place!
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m an independent pop artist, songwriter, and producer based in Nashville. I write, produce, record, and creatively direct my own projects, which means a lot of my music ends up feeling really personal because every part of it comes directly from me. Sonically, I make alt-leaning pop with touches of EDM in some tracks, but strong songwriting and emotion are always the core of what I do.
I think what sets me apart most is probably the combination of emotional honesty and production. I love making songs that feel polished and catchy while still sounding a little too personal in the best way. I’m very detail obsessed, so I care just as much about a tiny production moment or vocal layer as I do the lyrics themselves.
I’m especially proud of building everything independently and seeing the music connect with people naturally. I’ve performed at places and events like SXSW, The Roxy in LA, and NAMM, and I was also a finalist in the John Lennon Songwriting Contest, which was really surreal. I’ve also participated in Songhouse, based in Nashville. But honestly, one of the coolest parts for me is when someone tells me a song made them feel understood. That’s always been the goal, and that above all makes me feel the most like I’m doing something right.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up, I did all of the sports- volleyball was my favorite- but my mom always had music playing, and I was constantly putting on ‘concerts’ for my family or making up songs about completely random things. I was always very bubbly and full of life, and was just constantly wanting to create. The moment I saw Hannah Montana as a kid, I was fully convinced that’s what I wanted to do for the rest of my life, and here I am today, still doing it!
