Daily Inspiration: Meet Ysa

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ysa.

Ysa

Hi Ysa, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew up in New Smyrna Beach, which is a little surf town on the east coast of Florida. My parents were always singing and playing music in the house, and I started singing from an early age. I got into dance classes in high school and loved performing.

I was going to community college in Daytona Beach and walked into the wrong classroom one day, which was a recording studio. That’s when I discovered the college had a music production course, and it was over after that. I went through the program and fell in love with producing music and writing songs. The program only lasted two years so I transferred to Belmont University in Nashville, TN. I finished my degree right as the pandemic started in 2020. At the time, I was unemployed and locked in the house, so I just started making beats every day.

I was doing these beat battles online and joined some Discord and Twitch communities for music producers and songwriters. One of my friends told me about something called music for film and TV, or sync music. And I started writing and submitting music to sync agencies.

It grew organically. One of the agencies I was working for knew I sang too, so I started writing, and releasing songs, that ended up in shows like The Kardashians, Selling Sunset, Selling the OC, Love Island, Love is Blind, Married At First Site, and Catfish,

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has been an uphill battle! If I didn’t love music so much I wouldn’t be doing this. We just finished our first independent tour.

Which has been so rewarding, getting to meet new fans and connect with people in different cities. But the traveling and logistics as an independent artist can be rough sometimes.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m an artist, producer, and songwriter. Most known for my songs that have been placed on Netflix, HULU, and recently a Sephora campaign.

I’m most proud of the songs I write and produce on my own. Although I love collaborating. there is something really special about sitting down at a computer and piano and making a piece of art basically out of thin air.

What do you think about happiness?
Coffee. Waking up and having a cup of coffee is the most simple pleasure and makes me the happiest.
