We’re looking forward to introducing you to Emily Davis. Check out our conversation below.
Hi Emily , thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What are you being called to do now, that you may have been afraid of before?
I’m being called to show up with confidence in ways that use to feel intimidating. For a long time, I was afraid to take up space without explaining myself or making myself smaller. I felt pressure to justify my worth, my pricing, & my voice. Now, I’m learning to lead with quiet assurance instead of fear, trusting my instincts, honoring alignment, & letting my work & values speak for themselves. It’s less about proving & more about staying steady.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Emily Davis, a wedding & lifestyle photographer based in Middle Tennessee. My work is rooted in storytelling & connection, with an emphasis on creating an experience that feels calm, intentional, & true to the people in front of my camera. I’m less interested in perfect poses & more drawn to honest moments, the quiet in-betweens, & the emotions that make a story feel real. What makes my work unique is the way I approach photography as both an observer & a guide, creating space for clients to feel seen, comfortable, & fully themselves while preserving their memories with care & purpose.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
What breaks the bond between people most often isn’t conflict, it’s disconnection. It’s unspoken expectations, assumptions, & the slow drift that happens when people stop listening to understand & start listening to respond. Bonds are restored through presence, humility, & the willingness to stay when it would be easier to pull away. Repair happens when people feel seen, heard, & safe enough to be honest again. I see this play out constantly through my work, where the strongest moments emerge when people relax, trust one another, & choose to be fully present together.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Yes. When I gave up, I truly quit. I didn’t think I would ever pick my camera back up. At the time, stepping away felt permanent, not like a break & I’d come back. What I couldn’t see then was that the ending I thought I was experiencing was actually a reset, one God was quietly using to reshape my heart & my perspective. Walking away changed how I returned, with more clarity, intention, & gratitude for the work I now feel called to do.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
I’m committed to the belief that faithfulness matters more than timelines. I trust that the work I’m building will unfold in the right season, not because I’m rushing it, but because I’m staying obedient to what I feel called to create. I’m building toward a body of work that feels lasting, honest, & meaningful, not just beautiful in the moment, but something that holds weight years from now. I’m willing to let it take as long as it needs, trusting that God’s timing shapes the work in ways I couldn’t rush on my own.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
Yes, I think I could & in some seasons, I already have. There were times when the work I was doing felt quiet & unseen, when there wasn’t much affirmation to lean on. That forced me to ask who I was really doing it for. I’ve learned that giving my best can’t be tied to praise, because praise comes & goes. What stays is faithfulness, integrity, & trusting that God sees the work even when others don’t. Showing up with care, especially in the quiet seasons, has shaped me more than any recognition ever could.
